Although I've been following Steve's blog for over five years and I've been a member here for almost a year. I've been only been consciously trying to grow for the past few months. I already feel different. Good different. Let me rewind just a bit. Last year, I was going through the worst times. Toxic home environment, abusive boyfriend, addictions, dangerous impulsive behaviors, low self esteem, existential depression, to name a few things that I was trying to deal with. I was so overwhelmed, I lost hope many many times. I remember I'd look at myself in the mirror and tell myself "I love you sweetheart. Someday its all going to be better" but still after a while I would feel like the world's weight was on my shoulder. There was so much regret, anger, grief and guilt within me. I simply wanted to give up. I thought that I'm too weak to handle all this alone. If only I had cooperation from one side, I'd be able to do it. I blamed everyone and every situation for being the reason why my life was like sheer purgatory. 'IF ONLY my Mom put me in a better school, if only Dad paid more attention to my brother, if only grandpa did..." yada yada yada Somewhere around that time, I kept coming across this quote by Gandhi. 'Be the change you want to see in the world'. At that time I recognized this as a synchronicity, it was eerily showing up in my reality. But at that time I was like 'Please!! no one around me is gonna notice even if my 'change' came around and bit them in the ass', 'everyone are stubborn and arrogant, they don't even take me seriously, this is a 'principle' that only applies to people like Gandhi! He could fast for days together, he walked hundreds of kilometers, he had the courage to use non violence for freedom even though the British had many weapons. And me? I'm just an ordinary girl, I can't bring myself to do today's homework even! But BOY was I wrong! It was understandable why I thought that way tough. I was in a state of mind where there was no hope. I wasn't ready yet to completely understand this very powerful message! So if you happen to feel this way, don't worry, your not alone. Just keep faith, it will all be better. I hope you try to slowly inculcate this into your belief system. In just these two months of real growth I have touched EVERY person in my house without even trying and in ways they have never been touched before. Because I started the raw diet, my Mom is getting into it too now and is doing so much better than I am. My Dad who used be a worry wart, always whining and yelling at us, now sings and dances randomly when at home I can go on about how me changing had affected my external reality, parts of the reality I thought was impossible to change! Even though its all them doing most of the work to grow. I feel SO GOOD that I had a little part to play in that! So I just want to say, we tend to overlook many of these popular quotes because they are over used. And this one especially seems kinda improbable. You might think there are some very rigid people out there. I alone can't make a difference. But that is so far away from truth! When you raise your consciousness, you are also causing others to raise theirs too. At least, this is what I strongly believe. I hope you guys see that being the change you want to see in the world will result in some awesome manifestations and changes in your reality! You may be alone now, but you can cause a chain reaction that WILL one day change the world |

Hiya Gorgeous, This thread is full of awesome. I'm happy for you. And, yeah, you can't get a little inspiration on you without it getting on someone else. I'm noticing the same thing in my life. I think back to all the excuses I made about how nobody would support me if I changed, and now it's like everybody's supporting me. I walked into my bedroom last night and there, on my bed, was a Trig calculator. I don't know how it got there, but I suspect that it's from my dad--the one that I thought I might dissappoint the most if I switched careers. And I take that to mean he wanted to give me a little something that I might find useful as a math teacher. I like to modify Ghandi's quote just a bit, though.... Be the world you want to see. I think that's more inspiring to me. No need to change. Just build the world you wanna see. |

Hey LC, Congratulations to you. I was trying to rep you but unfortunately i can't rep you. What is imp. for me is to let you know that you have got great courage to go ahead and you can get anything you want, anything you set in your mind. You are developing a great harmony within your family that is really big thing. I appreciate your courage and now go for the thing you want to achieve! Best of luck to you. Thank you for sharing. |

I so agree. There was once a time I nodded my head in agreement over "Be the Change" and thought, "what a cute phrase." Others may roll their eyes and say, "Whatever." But from either extreme, that's not "getting it." Words become LIVING WORDS when you experience them and your life changes and you feel them. Now, I GET IT, too. I have been experiencing this kind of a change at my job. We are always giving, the question is, WHAT are we giving? Are we a cancer or sunshine? (or whatever) People think they are only "giving" when they are choosing to give, but we are always, always giving... It goes beyond actions - thoughts are real. "What is my vibe?" What am I sending out to others right now? My fears or love?

I like your version of the quote better too. It will work better than Gandhi's original version, as an affirmation to self. I will be using this Quote:

It's amazing how by being healthier, the people around us will often follow suit, even if they resist at first.

I've been following Steve's blog and participated here for over five months and I feel totally different too. I'm more positive and confident than ever before. Not as confident as I'd like to be but I'm not the shyest "thing" on Earth anymore. Yay!
