I have realised a habit/weakness of mine is I think too much. Having done an engineering degree, we're taught to think through things logically, and reflect on them. I seem to do it too much where it starts to become identified as "worrying too much" Anyhoos, Im going to keep a look out for Brian Tracy/Anthony Robbins tapes. | ||

As I follow this thread I remember some of the things I do almost automatically most days to create and maintain conscious contact with the realty of now. Today I went for a theraputic massage. It lasts about one and one half hours and for me both relieves stress and helps me stay grounded in now. I meditate and come away feeling refreshed and empowered metally, physically and emotionally. It is inexpensive here where I live costing $3.00 US for the package. Gene |

music = best mind-altering substance around! lately i've been listening to mos def, pearl jam, and the soundtrack to "jesus christ superstar." i discovered a show on the sundance channel which has really been helping me turn the beat around on a bad day, too -- it's called "iconoclasts," and the format brings together 2 diverse public figures for conversation and fun. the first episode i watched was laird hamilton (crazy amazing surfer guy) and eddie vedder (one of my personal heros) and it was wonderful. this morning i woke up feeling grumpy so with my morning tea i watched a bit of the dave chappelle + maya angelou episode. that made me feel about 1000% better. hearing these folks talk so intelligently and passionately about their lives, their creative processes, love, family, history, etc. is hugely inspiring to me. this show has definitely captured some gorgeous moments. i highly recommend setting your tivo for it! |

i find that many of the channelled sources are very inspiring and love-bringing. the ones i've checked out so far that i loved are: the seth material ra material bringers of the dawn a course in miracles it totally changes your viewpoint from doing things for your own benefit, to doing things for others and for the entire world/universe, to bring light into darkness and love into fear. it's no longer personal development for the ego's self, but personal development for the entire universe's Self, to change our reality into a more loving and compassionate one. you start to recognize your deeper sense of purpose and connect with your higher self, your heart sings and body hums and even if you do the same actions as before, the way you do it and the reason you do it for completely changes. |

Wow, didnt realise this thread was still going. Infact I completely forgot about it. Since I started, I think its appropriate that I put in a small update. Since posting back in early Nov, Ive read Think and Grow Rich by N. Hill, listened to audio CD of 'The power of positive thinking' by N. Peale, listened to Brian Tracy, I have also joined my local Toastmasters club. Im currently reading through the Master Key System as found on http://mindreality.com/masterkeysystem.pdf (Posted by MindReality on another thread). Ive also started a blog (mind you im its a little -on-off atm) After reading T&GR, ive generally maintained a more positive attitude. But everynow and then I do fall back to my old self ... and I think this is due to old habits. I believe I need to condition myself daily so that positive thinking and attitude becomes a more permanent part of my life. Heres to coming 2007 being the best year yet |

^ I found that while there's an emotional high immediately after reading something motivating like that, but it starts to dissipate. One way to deal with that is to simply motivate yourself from motivating material. Another way I am using co-currently is to change what I normally say or how I normally identify myself. I think someone mentioned that Anthony Robbins has a chapter in one of his books about changing your language patterns to become more empowering. I haven't read it yet, but an example of a change I made is that I'd often say "I'm such a geek" after a particularly geeky thing. It became a habit for me to say it. However, I realized that while geek used to be a semi-accurate term to describe me a long time ago, it's not what reflects who I am today. Aside from that, there are negative connotations (in terms of social skills, etc) which aren't true but I have to contend with everytime I identify myself as a geek. Long-winded response but hte gist is: Consider changing your language patterns and labels to more empowering terms. HTH. It's great to hear about your improvements and that gives heart to many readers. |

I can tell within the first five minutes of a yoga sequence that positivity has begun to flow within me. Also, dancing like crazy around the house to good music (Madonna's always good). I also love Tony Robbins and reading the Power of Now ( you can pick it up and just read any chapter, which is great).

I like Wayne Dyer as a motivational speaker. I'll always be grateful to Tony Robbins for lifting me out of a deep depression. I'll have to check out Brian Tracy. I've been really into podcasts, since they're free.

Was at my local bookstore today and I bought Zig Ziglar "How to be a Winner". Some very positive practical points presented. Funny thing though, is that he sounds a like Rev. Lovejoy from the Simpsons Ive only listened to it once, but one point that stuck for me; he says its good to listen to motivational tapes, regardless if your in a bad mood or good mood, infact its better if your in a good state of mind when listening to these tapes. |

i have a collection of movies that are all lighthearted and fun....PG Wodehouse books, ect that are my 'pick me ups' I agree music is probably the best mind alter-er sometimes you have to go through different stages of emotion -if i am down i will usually have to listen to something not so much light fun as 'epic' your life is bigger than this little moment - beetoven, a sweeping epic soundtrack (for some reason the end of Shakespeare in love" does this for me) Walking/movement is probably the best physical thing you can do. Worst: drinking (voice of experience |

Exercise... Hanging out with and particularly walking my dogs... As a boxing fan, I find it very inspiring to watch fights where great courage and toughness is displayed. George Foreman becoming the oldest heavyweight champion in history by knocking out Michael Moorer at age 45. All three fights between Erik Morales and Marco Antonio Barrera or between Mickey Ward and Arturo Gatti... This website is also a good source of motivation and a pick me up when I'm down |
