Default When you start thinking positive does your negative self fight back at some point?

I've been reading "Ask and it is given" lately and have been making a conscious effort to look at everything and every person more positively.

It's been going really well these past few days, but I woke up this morning and my mind was just FULL of negative thoughts coming from all over the place! Is this normal when you make a change, you get some kind of big resistance you have to push through??

I will not let this beat me and stop me from forming it a a habit! I feel like I'm being tested or something.

Yes, it's very normal.

Because a goal to "think positive" is an attempt to filter your negative thoughts out...to avoid them...to pretend like they don't exist. Which is, well, repression.

So, it doesn't surprise me that those repressed thoughts are all flying out like crazy all of a sudden.

I think it would be more effective for you to acknowledge your negative thoughts, and to get whatever lessons those negative thoughts are teaching you.

And then, eventually I think, you'll start realizing that there really are no "positive" or "negative" thoughts...there are just...thoughts. And all of them are useful in their own way, if you choose a perspective that allows you to see that.

That's a very nice explanation James.

Seems normal for me

You might want to spend some time examining these thoughts to see if they have the same root thought (or belief) that you might want to tackle, instead of burying them under a load of positive thoughts... cause in my opinion, unless and until you deal with them, they'll keep coming back. And I'm sure you can use your energy for more interesting things

I went through that a lot.
There was another thread on this forum about that resistance. How your unconscious mind defends and resists that because it is set up to protect who you are, even the undesirable parts. Or something like that. Don't know where that thread is now, anyone remember this?
