Default Giving away my power to my job!

I am giving away my power to my current job. I've known in the back of my mind that I've completely lost interest in my current job as it no longer fosters personal growth. I've plateaued at my job and it has been draining my energy for far too long.

I realize that I have allowed this to happen.

I need to leave this job, soon. I have some money saved up and would be okay for about 2-3 months before having to generate income or find another job.

It's extremely hard to leave this job, though. I feel that it's extremely convenient. I get to work from home and set my own schedule. But the bottom line is that it's draining me and I need to leave.

Ever since reading Steve's book I've felt like I need to be working for myself rather than someone else. It feels right for me.

Has anyone been in a similar situation? I'm not sure what type of business I would start, so quitting now seems counter-intuitive. On the other hand staying with my current job for longer than a month will cause me more stress than I wish to handle.

Any advice?

Thanks

Daniel

This is your life, and it's ending one second at a time. Every second you spend doing something you no longer have interest in is a waste of your life. If you don't want the side effects of staying with the job, then dump it. What do you want to do with your life? What do you want to work for? Sure, you want to work for yourself, but what do you want to do? What are your passions, your gifts? Share them with the world and see what you get in return.

Hi Daniel,
I was stuck in that rut for a while and know exactly what you're talking about. I took the plunge not long ago and handed in my resignation- wasn't easy making that decision, its definitely uncomfortable stepping out of a comfort zone..but I can't tell you how liberating it's been.

I haven't got a clue what's next either... like you, I've only saved up enough to get me through the next couple months.
But I was thoroughly tapped out of mental strength and energy, didn't have it in me to go another day. To a point that I've developed health problems that will take a while to reverse.. only hindering future progress (but not for long!)
As Andrew said, these are 'side effects' of staying with a job.. best to get out before too much damage is done.

I hope u find inspiration for business ideas, it'll come to you if you chase it hard enough.

“When it comes to the future, there are three kinds of people: those who let it happen, those who make it happen, and those who wonder what happened.”
John M. Richardson, Jr. quotes

Andrew & Shedidit -

Thank you for your kind words. This is exactly what I am going through. I think hearing other people's stories about it is fulfilling in some strange way. It allows me to remember that we're not alone in our trials.

I have definitely decided to let go of my job. I'm taking some measures to make sure that I will be okay financially before I do so, but I'm definitely heading there with purpose.

Daniel
