Default Unemployment and the emotions it triggers

Hey all,

I've been unemployed now for 13 months. It has been the most challenging and testing time of my life. There has been no lack of action on my part to look for employment but just no luck finding a job.

Fear, anger, disappointment are just a few of the emotions I have been feeling during this time of turmoil. It's been hard real hard dealing with the unknown, "Will i get a second interview?", "How am I going to pay the bills?" These are just a few of the thoughts i have from time to time.

But through all of this I have also noticed a sense of resiliency, discipline and sheer strength that I never knew i had. As much as the "situation" sucks, i can't help but notice these new found traits.

Just wanted to share.

Cheers,
ThisMoment

Hey,
I first want to actually congratulate you on the optimism throughout the whole situation you have been facing. Unemployment has recently been dominating major headlines and has consequently caused many side effects.
As you said, it is situations like this that actually bring out of us some traits that we did not know about ourselves. This is perfect as you can now discover yourself fully. Surprisingly enough this might just be enough to get yourself a job. Once you have gotten to know yourself at a deeper level, you can then try and apply for a job that relates to these traits you have discovered. Generally people tend to last longer in jobs or even get a job in which they have a genuine passion for.
Not everyone can pass on the first attempt, but it is the sheer determination and optimism that will deliver results in the long run. Remember patience is bitter but its fruits are sweet.
Nobody said life would be easy, they just promised it would be worth it!

In the past I was unemployed in the past too, and I noticed that when I gained inner peace and improved my selfesteem, I got to find a job. It was as if unemployment was a time to retire to the monastery of unemployment to improve spiritual skills. That's my experience...

I can't imagine how difficult that must be. Our economy is changing so much, it seems as though we're in uncharted territory. I often worry about losing my job. Although I think of it more as a part time job to pay bills while I work on other projects it would be very difficult if I lost it. I'm sure you've tried everything possible in the past 13 months but if it helps, I've gotten every major job I've had through friends. Perhaps networking could be the key.

@seraph24 -

I tried using my friends and contacts but I live in New York and it's gotten very competitive. Plus with the influx of new grads every six months, companies have great opportunities to cherry pick. Thank you for your thoughts.
