Default Using Highway Hypnosis

Hi there everyone. I've been using autosuggestion(some call it affirmations or self-talk) for years now, and I've found that I can increase its effectiveness by using it before bed or right after waking up, as these are the times that the subconscious mind is most suggestible. However, recently I made another discovery, on accident: Saying affirmations while driving a car. Highway Hypnosis is a well-documented psychological phenomenon in which the subconscious mind focuses on the driving, while the conscious mind is occupied elsewhere. It's otherwise known as driving on "auto-pilot" and I didn't know this before, but it apparently has the same effects as regular hypnosis, in that it opens up the mind for suggestions. So for those of you who are busy commuters and don't have time and patience for self-hypnosis or hypnotherapy, I would strongly recommend this method. It has worked wonders for my personal life.

Let me know if you have any interesting techniques or tips to share.

Highway Hypnosis sounds like a dangerous thing to me, man. Because the ability of your conscious mind to react will be minimized or gone completely. So if anything out of the ordinary happens, like a person jumps in front of your car out of nowhere, you've got trouble.

Yeah, I see the danger in that, but I understand what you mean completely.

Mostly any menial task does well for this purpose. Hooray for a sharp mind.

cant you just read a book or text while driving instead.
this reminds me of the people who have a dream catcher hanging from the rear view mirror, you've seen em. I have to ask, a dream catcher? are you planning on sleeping, and dreaming while driving?

this reminds me of my grandfather who died peacefully in his sleep, unlike the passengers in his car who died screaming

serious here it is the suggestion for your sub conscious mind, STAY AWAKE

This is a bit off topic, but something to consider:

When you use affirmations, you may want to state them as intentions. For example, instead of "I am awesome" or something like, you could say:

"I intend to be awesome" or "I choose to be awesome".

This tends to be more believable and it seems to go around any subconscious resistance.

Just a thought

Some people just don't get it. Your mind is active. It is going to think anyway. Just direct it in the right way.

Everybody, and I mean Everybody, at times drive on auto pilot. Everybody, and I mean Everybody, at those times are thinking or daydreaming something. Those things get inplanted into our brains.

Here is the trick-- inplant what you want to happen, instead of random thoughts.

Thanks for the help guys. When I was talking about highway hypnosis, I didn't mean a state of complete mind shutdown, obviously that would be incredibly dangerous. What I meant was, while driving familiar routes sometimes my brain can run on autopilot for a bit, and I've found that is a good time to slip in some affirmations. Jason C, thanks for the recommendation, I will give that a try.

I agree. Your mind is going to be thinking of "something" while driving. Might as well program that something and make it useful to ya.

How about this idea:

Record yourself saying your desired affirmations, then play them in your car while you drive.

Um 1st of all this would be dangerous, and I thought that's what hypnosis cd's were supposed to do, raise your suggestibility by giving your mind soothing sounds to play with. Might as well stick to that. Are you talking about affirmations before you wake and sleep? Or full on hypnosis before waking and sleeping? That's very powerful as well.

Default subliminal affirmations

There are some audio mp3's that have positive subliminal affirmations embedded in them that you can play while driving such as this one for example. There are also softwares that you can use if you want to make your own.

Cause you're talking about hypnosis with your eyes open it reminds me of a book I have: "Instant Self-Hypnosis: How to Hypnotize Yourself with Your Eyes Open."

The author maintains that you can hypnotize yourself while reading. The book has various scripts for various challenges: self-esteem, weight loss, etc.

I was doing it for a while with good result. I'd recommend it to anyone who feels that audio guided meditation isn't that effective on them.
