Default How Biking Helped with my Fear

I wanted to share this because I thought it might be helpful for people like me.

I've had problems with anxiety, fear and depression basically my whole life. Just a few months ago, I bought a bicycle (not a motorcycle) and it turned out to be a very positive thing for me.

At first, I was afraid of riding in traffic because I feared that cars might hit me. So, I limited myself to riding mostly on trails. Gradually, I became a bit more daring and rode on busier streets. Earlier this week, I was riding in the busiest traffic I had ever ridden in, and I had no fear. I felt very comfortable, I felt very in control and it was very thrilling.

What I learned from this was that what I had feared wasn't true. It taught me what was waiting for me on the other side of fear. It taught me that facing my fear can lead to fun and exciting experiences.

I hadn't really seen a benefit to facing my fear before this. This experience has made me more willing to get past my fear and anxiety in other areas of my life because now I know from personal experience that fear isn't always true.

You might want to read Deepak Chopra book called "Why is God laughing" It touches on how fear is not really helpful at all. The concept really makes you open your eyes to all the stuff we believe. Congrats on pushing yourself forward. Keep on going.

Congratulations on facing your fear!

I'm a cyclist too and riding my bike has meant many positive changes in my life - I have better health, lost weight and gained a lot of friends.

Now that you're comfortable riding in traffic, I can recommend trying out mountainbiking - very fear provoking and FUN!
