True and lasting happiness is not found in actions and things that you like doing. It begins with acceptance of the here and now and where you can joy and enthusiasm in the place of acceptance. Do not aim to be happy in the future, but just be happy now. It isn't a point you reach after x, y, or z. You find the happiness now. You bring joy and enthusiasm into your life through what you do. Start with acceptance of what is. Then move on to situations that will bring you joy. A big subject... read the Eckhart Tolle books |

Hi Dot, I too sometimes go with a bad feeling, I believe that sometimes it's good to wallow if only in the short term. Balanced is good but I like a rush. I see fear as excitement. I get quite tingley about it. Nice one IH, Love music, mad about it, I used to zone out for hours when I was younger and had more time. still love it though. Hi brendanz, Not starting a new rival thread on this one then.....? Only kidding. Exercise is brill for making you feel great. Take you on at streetball sometime. I must admit I'm a bit rusty but broke our schools record for goalscoring. Happy days. Take care. Shasah, There is something about you that is so likeable, you just sound like a great person. Music, exercise and writing in a journal we could be soul brother and sister. If you like journals buy an expensive one mine are about Ł10-20. They make you want to write all the more, like a new exercise book at school. Kaybee, you've discovered the secret to life. Gratitude pulls things in and creates more. Try this. When you go to bed each night spend 5 minutes imagining what tomorrow will be like. Really play it out in you're mind. Imagine perfection and be prepared to be astounded. justsbri, I sense another front row student, hey. Very succinct and to the point. please tell me you weren't the teachers pet at school. NO.... You dont have to tell me Plato, I'm watching my P's and Q's with you my English friend, otherwise I will be accused of arrogance and you will start throwing statements at me such as. "you cant just tell them this or that..." Us Mancunians have long memories. You are a deep thinker and I like that in a person. Must read more of Tony Robins. Take care. |

Well Andy, One of the best things I did was marry a guy who is easy going and happy. Additionally, I have learned to be grateful and appreciative of the blessings I have in life instead of the things I do not have. Many people strive for happiness as if it's a goal to achieve instead of an emotional state of mind. In my case. I've found contentment and peace. My life is happier for it. I used to think that I had to find stuff to make me happy. But now I realise that I dont have to have stuff happen to me to be happy. I can be happy now. Two things made me realise that. One was reading this article:What are you waiting for to be happy? | The Kaizan Blog and second was reading the book, the Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle, which is just amazing. it is ALL about living for now, and not expecting other things to make you happy. You can be happy now! |

I meditate everyday, this raises my happiness level greatly. I also read a lot of books on spirituality and personal growth. But the most important thing is probably that I earn my living with my passion. If your job is your passion you wake up every morning excited, happy and you just want to get to work!

Interestingly enough, Tony addresses this specifically in Awaken the Giant Within. First, change your physiology. Fix your posture, put on a grin, and get moving! Second, change your focus. Ask yourself what's good about life and the moment. Then, take action. Do something productive! |

Aggie, There is nothing better after you've exercised than a glass of wine, mine's a full bodied Rioja by the way. I love easy to please women. Even better, low maintenance, inexpensive women. Women that don't shop, women that are alergic to credit cards. But alas, these creatures are just pure male fantasy. Am I making progress doctor? Hi Kim, Marrying a positive person is always a good move. Gratitude really magnetizes everything in our lives. We create a field around ourselves which goes a long way towards determining our fate. Glad you are feeling happy. brendanz, We call basketball, girlie netball. Make sure the ball is round, put it on the floor, like God and FIFA intended and be prepared to be taught a lesson, However, us English are always magnaminous in victory, it's just our way. Hi Robbie, Living in the pesent is vital to a happy existence. I think the trick is to be able to switch from a really bad mood which we all experience from time to time to a better/good mood. Once you've accomplished this I believe that you are well on the way to self mastery. Hi Aleksander, Good point. I get out of bed every day at 5am and do lots of things. You've got to learn to elasticate time. Great post Innerchallenge, I agree with every word you say. Keep in touch. Hi CJ, I presume that you mean Tony Robbins? I've not read a great deal of his work but obviously he has a good reputation. If you've not read Jim Rohn yet, he's a very accomplished and amusing PD writer and definitely worth investing a few dollars/pounds in. Take Care. Andy. |

One of the best times I have is when I'm with friends who laugh at my jokes. and when they make jokes that make me laugh out loud it makes it even better. I also enjoy being on the water. If I am on a sailboat, nothing, nothing, nothing bothers me whether I am alone or not. I just grin and grin. But, I'm also happy snorkeling and watching the fish around a coral reef. I enjoy painting, and when it's just the way I pictured it, or better, it is a wonderful feeling. Reading a good book in front of a fireplace in the evening with a glass of wine is hard to beat. Having a glass of wine and a bowl of beef stew after skiing all morning with friends comes close. I could think of a lot more.... But, I won't be greedy.... - Nancy |

I focus on the many things I have to be grateful for. I also try to show appreciation each day. There is nothing better than showing someone else you value something about them. Kim Self Improvement and Motivation Kim (fuelmotivation) on Twitter |

Hi Strem2, I agree, laughing out loud is really good and no matter what happens in you're life never let insignificant people stop you from having fun. Unfortunately some people are given a tiny bit of power and it goes straight to their heads. They end up judging people that they are not qualified to. But hey, we should all live and let live. However, it's a fact of life that the one who laughs last always laughs longer. You sound like a really fun type of person. I too love water and art although I am not very good at drawing or painting. I love everything that you have said Nancy and if you want to be greedy then so be it. Believe you me, the more you ask for the more you will get, it's that simple. I'm not too happy tonight. You may be able to detect that from my tone but you're post has helped to cheer me up. I sense something really good in you. We have spoken b4 and I'm really sorry I'm not in a good mood 2nte but tomorrow's another day. Take care. Hi DD, My favourite moderator, Hope that doesnt mean that you wont last long, you speak good sense and if you criticised me I would accept it. That's how much I like you. Time alone for you obviously works. My way is constant mood shifts and constant positive visualisations. It's amazing how effective they are. Take care. Hi Angela, You are such an inspiration and I really mean that. Nice to read about you having a 'hug' with Seeker5 tonight. It warmed my heart. Kaybee. What more can I add, you're words are perfect. I predict that you will becme a master student of life. I really hope that you fulfill you're potential and that you have a ball. Take Care. Andy. |

I always feel better when I do or say something to make other people feel better. It's much more fulfilling, I think, to give what comes from within rather than to try to receive things that will just affect us on the surface.

Years ago I read an interview with Al Pacino where they asked him if he was Happy. He replied: "I don't think there is Happiness, Only concentration." I didn't get it at the time, but now I think I do. Focus, or "flow" as Mihály Csíkszentmihályi calls it. Flow (psychology) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Maybe that's why former athletes pine for their playing days...They were so into the activity.that makes "everyday life" pale in comparison.that "Comparison" is what the mind does very well so I think I can see where the real problem lies...What must a Nascar Driver feel like @ 200 mph on the oval @ Daytona. Are they Happy? I don't know. but man, they are FOCUSED. There is no Happiness, Only concentration. |

Hi Black Falcon, I know that trick but try this one. 300 seconds you say, no worries, try 300 seconds staring into your own eyes, I do it whilst I'm shaving, It's a good leveler. EL, I believe that focus and happiness are the same thing, just think about it, good reply, take care. Metafix, The next time I'm in Ohio or your in Manchester we'll stick on a rocky movie, not 3 or 4 but the original, put on some loud music and put the world to rights. Regards, Andy. |

I like walking I like doing creative things that are my own personal projects I like being around children I like creating creative things for children I like getting in my car and driving up to the country and filming random things I like sitting in a field in the country and taking in all the sounds and scents I like the simple things in life I guess These things make me feel happy. When I feel down, I just tell myself that these feeling will pass tomorrow. So just accept them and wait for them to disappear. |

| Pretty much any form of distraction (form whatever I am thinking that got me down) works on me, so music, housework, a computer game, exercise, playing with the cat, cooking, chatting with my fiance... My fiance once got me out of a sulk buy whipping out a christmas bauble and exclaiming "Shiny! Shiny!"....

I spend time/weekend with a special someone! It keeps me up for days! We both fill eachother with so much positive energy that nothing can bring us down. This is the only person with whom nothing is complicated, unbelievable lightness of being. it is like being with the best version of myself. For an instant lift I call him and his voice is enough. This has been my "method" for over 2 years.
