Default Looking for the positive & avoiding emotions

Guys,

I've written an update on my blog about a lesson I've learnt today.

Riding the wave

I've been of the opinion that I should always look for the postive and to avoid negative emotions for the past couple of years. However today it dawned on me that to truely live you need to flow with your emotions and not avoid them.

A friend of mind took me out for lunch. He described how he felt when he held his baby son for the first time.

He told me he was paralysed with fear at the thought of loving someone so intensely. As he relayed the story, tears ran down his cheeks.

He made no attempt to hide his emotion.

Bearing in mind this is a tough guy- a former bouncer- I was quite suprised at how he could unashamably completely open up in the middle of a busy resturant.

It dawned on me that I would never have let myself feel like that, or react that way in public, and that I was in some way missing out on a beautiful part of life.

Stephen

I've learned feeling negative emotions is just as fulfilling as feeling the positive ones. Avoiding emotions is the worst thing you could ever do.

I suppose it may have something to do with how you define negative emotions.
