Default Cultivating Burning Desire

Okay, so the goal I'm going after is personal development - changing my beliefs so I can be a truly happy, motivated person most of the time rather than just part of the time. Steve Pavlina has an article called "Cultivating Burning Desire", and the first step is to "burn the ships". How would I go about burning the ships to motivate myself to change my beliefs? I'm not sure how this step would be applied here.

Edit: Actually, this topic should belong in personal effectiveness...

Hello Yoyo

The phrase 'burn your boats' is a metaphor for any decision you intend to become permanent in your life. It really means deliberately taking some action you can't go back on.

When you have found your own 'burning desire', you will come to the point where you need to make such a decision. The first step is to look inward and do the self-examination necessary to find your heart's desire, the rest will follow.
