Default If someone falls in a forest...

If someone is hurting in a forest and no one is around to hear/see it, is she really hurting?

I'm thinking about the last 18 or so months. And how do describe it. Or how to describe my feelings during this time. Or how to describe the whole situation. Most of the time I've been all alone in it, so I can't be sure. There's no-one to tell me what i[t] was or validate my feelings.

You don't need a validation from someone else, do you? Besides that no one can know you better than you do. Have you ever tried journaling your thoughts?

I once had a situation where this was a realistic concern for me.
I had a medical operation and got anestesis that removed (or prevented the buildup) memories of a few painful days (or I don't know how painful they were because I don't remember).

I'm not sure whether the pain of these days existed in a practical sense and the doctor didn't thought that it did.
I think as long as someone remembers the pain it definitly exists for practical purposes.
Journaling and letting the paper hear your pain is probably a good idea.

Wow, I never knew those kind of drugs even existed. What's the name of the anesthetic you were given?

I don't know the name.
I think it blocked sleep and normally memory get copied during sleep from short term to long term memory.
I had 6 days no sleep at all (and only short intervalls of consciousness during those days) and another 7 days only stage 1 + stage 2 sleep (I do have memories for the second 7 days).

It isn't worth the effort for just killing a few memories to do such a thing.
