And after he/she has been eaten...?

I was going to ask "do I know that help will arrive in x amount of days and that the 'meat' will last until then?" Not that I would kill another human for food, because my answer is a sure no, just for speculative purposes.

Could I to survive, ala Alive, eat a human who died through no action on my part. I'd think it would be very difficult, but possible. Killing someone though, no way. I'd rather kill myself and let them eat me.

I would kill and eat an animal, but only after I would have exhausted or ruled out all other options. I think you need to be darned unlucky to find yourself in a situation where eating the animals is your only option for short term survival.

As for eating humans. If some Jigsaw like sadistic killer were to lock me and another guy up in a room, with no food or water... then I would probably at some point (try to) kill the guy and eat him. I don't even think my low life animalistic instincts will be engaged at that point. I think it will be a very conscious decision: "if you don't do this horrible thing, YOU will die." I can't imagine willingly choosing death in that situation, I'm not that noble. And, honestly, I don't think many people are...

Of course, the chance of a Jigsaw like sadistic killer locking me up in a room is beyond negligible, so fortunately this will be nothing more than a thought experiment.

If your human companion died of natural causes would you consume the flesh? The idea seems repugnant to me but I have not been in the situation. I do know of reports where that has happened.

Agreed. I've yet to butcher an animal, but would be open to doing so were the opportunity to present itself (hunger wouldn't even be an issue) as it seems like a worthwhile experience for anyone who eats meat at all. Most of my meals are vegetarian right now, but occasionally I'll still fix a nice rare cut of steak, head out to a sushi restaurant, or accept something someone else prepared that happens to have meat in it.

Would I kill an animal for food?

When I saw the title of this thread, I pictured a chicken on a streetcorner, slyly opening his trenchcoat to reveal hidden Haagen Daaz bars offered at a reduced rate because they're stolen. Yes, if I was very hungry I would kill that chicken if I had to, but only if he had a dark chocolate/vanilla. First I might try just stomping on his foot real hard and running away.

What about fish? For some reason, catching fish and other seafood somehow seems less brutal than killing a chicken. Maybe because there's little to no blood?

So to answer the question, I would catch some fish.

Most definitely. If a bear was hungry it would have no gripes about eating me, so naturalistically I should have no gripes about killing chickens, ducks, pigs, whatever. Plus I grew up in the country witnessing stuff like that, I mean we have a gun on our front porch for killing crows.

Um. If you were getting paid in a few days you need not eat to live, as long as you have some water you'd be fine once you got paid... You can go a surprisingly long time without eating.
Anyway, I WOULD kill an animal if I needed it to live. It's called bucking the f@!k up and growing some goolies.

Sure I'd kill an animal to feed myself. I've eaten things I have killed/butchered before. I don't think there's anything wrong with it either, at least on the individual level. I think that what we do with our excessively large animal ranches is an entirely different topic.
