Default Mindfulness in everyday life....

I've recently started to practice more moments of mindfulness in my day to day experience after reading a couple of mindfulness books and The Power Of Now.

Personally I have a mindful shower every day, listening to the water, feeling the water on my body... I take a few conscious breaths when ever I remember to through the day... I am mindful when I brush my teeth... Often when walking I will become intensely aware of my surroundings, feel my breath and notice my steps... Also I will occasionally stop, close my eyes and listen...

So what scenarios do people practice mindfulness in?...

I'm not that far yet. Most of the time I don't remember to be conscious... But I try it often when I take a walk. For example at night when everything is more quiet and I can perceive everything more easily.

I haven't read Power of Now, but I can kind of sense what you're talking about by "mindfulness".

I've done it walking in nature, of course (it's such a different experience every walk, almost like you're tuning into a new radio channel every time you walk through the woods.) Fully consciously listening to music, especially electronic music, I found that to be really mind opening. I started listening to each of the different tones and how they interact with each other... the chords, the timbres of each musical sound, the rhythms, and so on. (Since I'm a pianist, that's probably more interesting to me than the average person. )

I shall be checking out Power Of Now as soon as I finish the 2 books I am reading. But, I can relate to the feeling of mindfulness. I am mindful when I cook, write, walk, wait for traffic signals, go shopping etc.

Whenever I am unhappy/worried/irritated then I bring my attention to the present moment and practice being mindful. This dissolves the negativity and then I can direct my mind to more useful things like gratitude, prayer and intention setting.

I try to bring mindfulness to every activity - from cleaning the bathroom to writing a blog post, even while I'm reading through posts on this forum. The more you open up some space in your life for the stillness to enter, the easier it becomes and the more able you are to bring your mind back to the present when it starts wandering off on an ego-trip again

Default Don't Resist

Hi Deej

I found that it's the most valuable when I am in a stressfull situations that I don't want to be in. I focus on what's going on inside me and try to accept the situation and not resisting it. It immediately put me in a frame of mind to deal with the situation best. Read the following on my experience

Friday Feeling - Discover your energy and zest for life

Keep well

I will, I'm so going to buy it next time I'm at Borders. (Our Barnes and Noble doesn't carry it, for some reason!) I actually going to start reading "A New Earth" tonight, from what I hear the two books overlap slightly?

Yeah slightly, they do differ alot though, definetley worth reading both.

I personaly prefer PON... Its the kind of book you need to re-read, it will seem a little different each time you read it and new bits will jump out at you.

Happy reading ;-)
