I've read alot of books on everything from depression, bipolar, self esteem, improving brain functioning etc, and what I've realized is that my mental illness (bipolar) is greatly magnified by my thoughts and my veryvery low self esteem. I'm currently reading the best self help book I've come across thus far. it has really forced me to see the truth in myself and my causes/reasons of self-destruction and includes exercises to help you do this. its called "Self Esteem" (third edition) by Matthew McKay, PH.D. and Patrick Fanning. the main premise is that its a "proven program of cognitive techniques for assessing, improving and maintaining your self esteem" I don't usually recommend books, but I really recommend this one if you feel like your self esteem is really taking a blow and needs some saving. let me know if ya'll have any questions. |
