Lightbulb Depression / Anxiety and Brain Health

PBS had a session on Brain Health by the psychiatrist, Daniel Amen. It was fabulous! He basically said that unhealthy brains cause many symptoms, like depression, anziety, ADD, etc., etc., etc.

He talked about how to heal the brain -- but one statistic was amazing. Of 3,000 folks in the US, only 90 were found to have healthy brains. So our expectation of what is normal, is way below what is possible since so many of us aren't there. . . .

Some of the things that hurt the brain: smoking, lack of exercise, drugs, alcohol, sleep deprivation, high-carb diets. . . .

Some of the things that help heal the brain and maintain a healthy brain: the right fats in the diet (fish oil, nuts, olive oil), low carb-diet, meditation, exercise, working the brain (never-ending learning), plenty of sleep, etc. etc. etc.

Thought you would be interested. All the best, Belle

Thanks Belle. I've been wanting to watch that PBS program, but keep on missing it. Good to know the highlights. I'm following a program by Dr. Mark Hyman that is putting my body and brain into that healing and healthy area. Good to know!!

I don't know about the link, but he has a lot of excellent books. I went ahead and purchaased one and it is fantastic. Not expensive either. Just go search on amazon, see what you come up with and read the reviews. . . .

All the best, Belle
