Default Letting go

'Let go' is a phrase, I've heard or said throughout my life, but never really understood how to actually do it. It is an especially hard thing to do when you feel like your world is crashing down around you. Recently, I think I have figured out how to do it and thought it might be interesting to write a thread and hear how others do it.

As I said, my realisation is recent, so I haven't really had the opportunity to put it to the test on the big things, but it has worked with small things.

The answer is quite simple... and I learnt it from Eckhart Tolle.

1. Acceptance... it is as it is.
2. Refrain from thinking about the story of the issue.

I've been doing similar things. I use various tools from the Sedona Method with serious issues, whenever I struggle to let go. And then there's Gendlin's technique called "focusing", where you watch the emotion/situation as an observer, then focus on the emotion without resistance and feel it intently until you get a "felt shift". I use mindfulness too - whenever I get into the story I just experience the thoughts then let them go.

I'm still learning of course, and I have a tendency to hold on very tight to certain things!
