| I would like to ask, What are the views on the forum about those diagnosed as Hypochondriac's? Do you think it is a sickness or disease as a result of the brain lacking in chemicals? Or, Does it originate from the channeling of negative forces from ones entire mindset? |

| Every hypochondriac I personally know was rewarded for feeling sick at some point in their lives. Usually in the currency of "attention." From mommy or daddy. Special treatments, or presents when hurt or sick. Or from friends. Or from society. Or from "important" people like doctors and specialists. They equate illness with pleasure. Jennifer |

| Indeed. My buddy's wife will claim that she's sick, or his kids are sick, just so he comes home from work or hanging out with the guys. It wasn't until I said something that she was diagnosed with hypochondria, which of course, only fueled the fire. I agree with Jennihul. They've been conditioned to use it as their default cry for attention. ~BraveBlueMice

| I agree that hypochondria is caused by some form is usually subconsious desire for attention. I think there's different level of the illness though, some people end up getting so deep that they really start creating the illnesses that they obsess over.
