Default At Peace

What does the term "at peace" mean to you? Recently it was mentioned by people view the Lost series regarding the Locke character. I remember him when he was first introduced, sitting on the beach, when everyone else was frantic, he seemed at peace. It seems like a good place to be. Though hard to get to. Maybe that is the place where we would all like to be at.

I like Tolle's metaphore of a lake with stormy waters on the surface, but always constantly calm underneath

I've had an experience two weeks ago, where 4 armed robbers held me and my family at gunpoint for about 1 hour while they took what they wanted in the house. During the whole time I found myself to be at total piece. The situation on the outside was hectic, but inside I was at total piece. I still don't know why, but there was no fear. I also sensed that they were more scared than me and I found myself walking through the house almost like and estate agent, showing them what they can take. They left an hour later with everything, but fortunately nobody was hurt.

To me, being at peace is a total acceptance of where you are and what's happening to you. I recall being a research assistant for a team when I was a postgrad and all our servers crashed. We lost months and months worth of data as well as personal information and various other things. Everybody went into panic mode and spent all their energy talking about how dreadful it was, agonising over all the work they'd have to do to repair the damage. I just got on with my job, feeling that there really wasn't any point doing anything else. Being at peace for me is just accepting where I am and what I'm doing, there's no need to worry or do anything else except what I'm doing.

Inner peace = a lack of internal dialogue
