Default And now for something completely different...

When I started coming here to post my feelings, most of my feelings were quite negative. True, I still have many negative feelings but the thing that keeps popping up over and over is that I feel much better after I post a reply to someone else's question here. I suppose it is because of something I read in the book 'Undoing Depression' where it suggests that you can try to help yourself out of depression by helping others.

In addition, I'm normally a pretty depressed personality, however, I have actually benefited greatly from this unsavoury state by writing! They say the most important artists, musicians, actors, and writers of our time had, at one point or another, suffered from depression and even mania. I think the reason they could contribute is because they could express that pain to other people through their work thereby bridging the gap that depression creates between people.

So, I guess what I'm saying is, I'm grateful for this forum because it helped me to help others.

What do you think?

Writing really does help. It's a way of communicating with others and letting out your feelings. I'm happy that you've found a way to channel your emotions into something good and worthwhile.

But, I disagree that artists tend to be the way they are because they are depressed or something. Artists are artists ever since they were born.

There are three kinds of artists. Those who create from a place of pain, those who create from a place of joy and those who just create for the money.

I very much prefer one of those groups, guess which.

Ok, there is a fourth group too, but those artists never create anything because they were told to get a real job.
