| Feeling sick to the stomach at the moment. A friend who emigrated in the early 80s got in touch yesterday and it was great to hear from him. He told me about how his life panned out after he moved. I remember him telling me in a letter years ago that his brother had died but he never gave any details. Now I know why... His brother was sexually assaulted and murdered aged 13. Curiosity led me to do a search and I really wish I hadn't. We're talking Fred & Rosemary West and Myra Hindley & Ian Brady territory here. You can't have a 'mild' murder but this was PUREST EVIL. It all happened a long time ago but it's hit me like truck. What is worse is that one of the killers is now free. This news comes on the 26th anniversary of another friend being killed in a road accident on his bike. He was also 13. I'm thinking of removing January 4th from my calendar.

| Hi, Tuumble. Understandably, you feel angry now. You've heard about an act that makes no sense to you. As someone who has, like your friend, told of the death of a brother without giving any details, I will say this: over time, you will recover your joy. I bet your friend has, too. Personally, I believe that no one can escape a lesson. I also believe that there are lessons on both sides, too: those for victim and his family, and those for the perpetrator and his family. We'll all heal eventually. I wish you a more speedy than slow healing. |
