| I'm usually fine from marketing tactics, but during the holiday season, the "need" to buy this and that with the "sales" and promotions going on... I can't seem to hold back. I understand the whole letting the things you own, own you, but can't seem to control these materialistic impulses. |

| Then remove yourself from the influence. Avoid malls, use the mute button when ads come on TV and whatnot. You won't be able to insulate yourself completely, but you do have a choice as to how you spend your attention and time.

| I agree with CDN's post. If you get things in the mail, throw them out right away. Don't browse in the stores unnecessarily "just to look", because there's no reason to look if you don't want to buy. Don't bother shopping on boxing day, and if you do go shopping for necessities somewhere like wal-mart, do not pay attention to the garbage they have in the middle of the aisle. Only look at the price of the items you know you actually need. Don't watch any commercials, skip ads in the newspaper. Realize that you try and make things a better deal than they are just so you can satisfy your need to buy something. "I don't normally buy this kind of stuff, but it's such a good deal". Don't deceive yourself... it's still dumb to buy useless things at 50% off Last edited by Jim11 : 11-18-2007 at 08:00 PM. |
