Default Facebook can be evil

I hate comparing myself to other people. It's such a pointless and demoralizing experience. Even though I know that the number of wall posts and pictures you have online has no bearing on anything, seeing when other people have more than you sucks. I wish there was a way to turn off the numbering of pictures and wall posts.

Do you guys have any strategies for dealing with this? Facebook can be pretty useful for talking to people, so I don't want to eschew it entirely.

Eschew it anyway for 10 days. You'll have better clarity over your ego-attachment after removing the needle for a while.

I had a MySpace account a while back. The main reason I deleted it was that someone hacked it and put up a naughty video. Still, looking back, I think it was a great thing. The only people I've lost touch with were the one's I wasn't really close with to begin with. I've kept in better contact with my true friends through email and phone calls since I don't have that easy way to drop a comment. All in all, I think it was the best choice for me.

Or maybe I am just too old and out of touch!

Myspace can be really annoying, I deleted mine recently as well. All those friend requests piss me off...

Facebook is not a competition.

...neither is Myspace.

(i hate how people think that the number of "friends" they have online is a reflection of how cool they are as a person...)

i deleted both of my accounts like 2 years ago, and i seriously don't miss it at all.
it was so useless... and way too time-consuming.

so i decided that if (and when) i get on the internet, i'm going to be doing something more productive. like reading about personal development.

but even if you don't want to close down your account, i would still recommend taking a break from it... delete it from your Favorites, forget about it, and don't log in for at least a week.
who you are in real life is much more important than how you're portrayed on the computer, anyway.
