Hmm... before this my mentor always say that my emotion intelligence is low. But lately he praised me that I improve a lot in this field. So I can say that you can learn this from life experience. For your information, I learn this through my business. |

I posted this book recommendation in another thread, and it's a great resource for emotional intelligence and social interactions: Amazon.com: First Impressions: What You Don't Know About How Others See You: Books: Ann Phd Demarais,Valerie Phd White It covers a lot of great information about how to understand and empathize with people and become friends with them. Dr. Paul Ekman's book on understanding facial expressions is another really good book: Amazon.com: Emotions Revealed, Second Edition: Recognizing Faces and Feelings to Improve Communication and Emotional Life: Books: Paul Ekman |

I've learned a lot in this area simply by allowing myself to get close to other people. You can learn a lot from relationships. The more I learn about how I block the emotions and filter them, the more I learn how to express them and recognize them.

I personally recommend David DeAngelo's "On Being a Man". Within the DVD set he has MANY book recommendations that I advise pursuing. Dr. Paul Dobransky has some really excellent, understandable formulas. I also recommend Anthony Robins for his books and CD's. At any local book store... least Barnes and Noble here. Emotional intelligence is definantly an interesting area. I'd say its one of my stronger points personally. It all has to do with essentially being able to empathise both with others and oneself! Essentially its defined as ones ability to manage their own emotions, as well as those of others. Maybe I should write research this more an write an article on it, it does sound very interesting. An interesting question would be to see if those with more neuroplasticity are more emotionally smart. Neuroplasticity is basically the bodies ability to be flexible. As a musician I certainly feel that music is great for handling emotions, and I wrote an article recently on how it helps with the brains ability to create new pathways. It can be found here: Total Wellbeing: The Power of Music - The Link Between Musical Ability and Intelligence: I wonder if musicians are typically score better on emotional intelligence? Or indeed arts based students against science based students? It would make an interesting study I imagine. |
