The election applies to Ontario, but lets see how all Canadians feel. For the record, I concede that Dion is not Mr. Charisma. However, I would rather have him--and the Liberals--back in power, watched like a hawk, than the insane Conservatives, free to operate unchecked. For those who vote Green/NDP...please, please consider lending your vote to the Liberals. Surely, we can agree that the Tories must not win. WRT the new voting system...on the surface, it appears to be better. Of course, the Tories want it in place so that they can gain seats in Ontario. Then again, it may give NDP and Green more seats. I'm going to take the risk, and vote for the new system. It's fairer, and that's what's important. EDIT: BTW, I voted... Liberal, new voting system Last edited by Tasaio; 09-22-2007 at 07:27 PM. |

Update: Well, at the last minute, I switched. I voted Liberal, OLD system. It was too much of a risk--I think the Conservatives would have secured the most benefit. If you simplify the province from 107 to 90 geographich regions...it looks like the Conservatives would dominate. Image:Ontario2003transposition.PNG - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia People will say, what about NDP and Green standing to win more seats? My answer is, I forgot about the other extremist minor parties. They wil l stand to win more seats, too: - Family Coalition Party (idiotic pro-life group) - Communist Party (not willing to take the chance) - Republican Party (ARGH!!! Stay the hell out of Canada!!!) Good grief, I don't want these people getting any more influence! - - - In any case, McGuinty won a large majority. Tory even lost his own riding. Congrats, McGuinty! Four more years of sensible Liberal government--great news. |

If I were in Ontario I would have voted for the provincial Conservatives because they represent the slightly more pro-freedom choice. In the Canadian election, I will vote for whoever is more pro-freedom, Liberals or CPC. If the CPC wants to inject abortion laws, then I wouldn't vote for them. Most likely, once again, they will be slightly more economically free than the Liberals (just by a hair) so I will vote for them. |

There's this consistent myth that somehow conservative parties (like the old PCs in Canada, the current Canadian Conservatives and the Republicans in the US) are somehow more fiscally responsible. But facts show that it just ain't so. In Canada, the largest debt was created through the Conservative government of Brian Mulroney. In Ontario, the biggest debt was created by the Harris/Eves Tories. In the US, the burgeoning debt - over half-a-trillion dollars and still climbing - is under the current Republican watch of Dubya. But a trillion is such a big number that it's hard to comprehend. Just as a moderately interesting exercise, let's say that you were asked to count out, in one dollar bills, a million dollars, a billion dollars and a trillion dollars. A million dollars, counting one bill per second 24/7, would take 11 days, 20 hours, 4 minutes and 4 seconds. A billion dollars would take about 33 years. A trillion dollars would take - are you ready for this? - 31,546 years. | |
