I personally try to stay as far away from films that scare me as possible they haunt me. Whats your take on them? Do they effect you? What would your thoughts be if at the end it said "based on a true story"? What if anything would you do or say to convince yourself it isn't real even if it was. Kind of like trying to go back to ignorance. |

you know, I saw the movie the Exorsist at the theatre when it first came out in the 70's I was only around 16 or 17 I can tell you that movie effected me for months and months.... it was the first of it's horror kind , as there were no movies relating demons and possessions i think another reason that it effected me so deeply was because I grew up in a very fundemental church where you were aware of "demons" from the biblical sense........but I did not know how to difereniate the differences between hollywood demons and the bible demons.....( they neglected to teach us this in church )...lol so yeah that movie was one that i should not have seen...........However* i did make myself watch it again a year ago so i could get over the fear i carried from my teen experience.........and to a degree watching it did help me but that make up job on Linda Blaire's face when she is possessed.....that is still terrifying to me !!! today even |

When I first watched The Ring, it disturbed me on a very deep level for at least a week after watching it. Mind you, I was almost 19. I just watched The Amityville Horror a few weeks ago and that one had a similar effect. Basically, horror movies are an extreme case of deliberately subjecting yourself to negativity in its most extreme forms. Not that they aren't enjoyable, but it's a very dark side of humanity that enjoys them. Are they wrong? Well, darkness and light are just two sides of the same coin. |

I like watching horror movies like Doom, which I guess are monster-action-movies really. They're clearly not possible and usually have a team element so they're fun to watch if the good guys make it and the monsters die. I have difficulties watching horror movies with a twist on reality like Event Horizon or the Ring cause there's an element to it that has me wondering Why not? and thus they leave me unsettled for a long time after I watched them. But then they shake up my point of view of reality a bit, so though they're not pleasant they might have a useful element. I stay away from horror movies with a sadistic turn, or generally horror movies based on slaughter, though in general they aren't really scary but just sickening. I just can't see any benefit in them at all, and I'm confused that they are even produced, and then mainstream to top it these days, so I just try to ignore their existence. Hm, but then maybe they make these movies cause there are too many people that are scared and angry and all that violent emotion manifests in these movies. |

i hate gratuitous blood and gore. But it's the psychological horrors that get me. House on Haunted Hill...that thing in the hallway...seeing something walk past the doorway out of the corner of your eye. Opening the curtains and seeing someone looking back in at you. Things like that scare the crap out of me.

Films dont tend to affect me, I'm sure its because i'm stuck in the mindset that they are not real and just actors (normal people) dressed up meaning to scare people for entertainment, I do get a thrill out of watching a good horror film now and again. Ax |

I really hate blood and guts horror movies, but I love the ones that are psychological thrillers, without the gore. My friends don't understand how much it bothers me; they always try to make me feel better by reminding me that the movie is not real, and they are all just actors. It doesn't help. When I went to see Kill Bill I had to close my eyes for half the movie because of all the blood, even the anime scene. It's strange because the amount of blood in that movie is so ridiculous, it isn't realistic, but I still couldn't watch it. However, my favorite horror movie is Scream! The only part I can't watch is the beginning where Drew Barrymore's boyfriend gets disemboweled, but I the rest of the movie is funny and a great thriller. |

Then later I was really scared by one of Alfred Hitchcock's called the Birds. But for horror movies I really enjoy, it would have to be Stephen King. Carrie....Salem's Lot....Christine....The Stand.... I loved them all!

I love the cheap, short lived emotional reaction that horror flicks afford me. Much the same reason that I love roller coasters. Up, Down, In a Tunnel, Out, loop de loop, get off. My life isnt richer, but the ride was fun. Most of them don't have a very good storyline...thats reserved for a psychelogical thriller as opposed to a straight up horror/slasher flick. I enjoy those as well. I also like extremely crappy "horror" flicks, like in Piranha 2, where they cross breed piranha and flying fish...lol Maybe I just take things a lot lighter than everyone else here? |

I have some friends who visited recently who were in town for a horror movie enthusiast festival. She's really into the make up artist aspect of horror movie production; he just likes a good zombie flick. I'm not sure if it would bother me more knowing the story were true or not. Clearly Jason isn't going to get you if you fall asleep and dolls aren't coming alive to kill anybody anytime soon. But we all know there have been several cases of sadistic serial killers, even if we haven't imagined all the gory details... yet.

I am with your sister here. That movie is hilarious! I have to admit though, when I was a child that movie scared the crap out of me.
