The Thursday night pre-workshop dinner thread :)

Hi folks,

I've seen much chatter about people wanting to get together for dinner Thursday night. This is the thread to post your thoughts and ideas.

MY thoughts:

1. Dinner somewhere between 6 and 8pm, depending on what time people are getting here.
2. This may not be possible, but a place with dinner options for everyone, from the steak eater to the strictly salad person Is this possible? How about a buffet option?
3. A place that will let us split tickets (or maybe even walk up to the counter to pick up our food). I enjoy large dinners, but I hate the part when it's time to split the check.

That's about it. So, do me a favor. Post your arrival time, your dietary preferences, and any firsthand suggestions.

Hi there,

I arrive in the afternoon (13.00 I think).

I eat almost everything except seafood or fish.

I can eat meat, or I can eat vegetarian as long as it isn't a salad.. I prefer a cheap option so somewhere where we can easily pay separate would be perfect!

Hmmm, is there such an option as cheap on the strip? I did a bit of searching on yelp and found a Thai place that looks interesting, but it'd be about 2 miles from the Flamingo.

Any locals care to weigh in here?

Maybe we also need to clarify cheap here. Hows about a dinner and nonalcoholic drink for $10-15?

Oh, I would love to do this. I'll be arriving I think around 2:00 in the afternoon. I'd love to at least meet up with some people.

I definitely eat meat.

The price range you mentioned sounds fine, though I'm not sure how I feel about thai.

I'm so excited for this trip.

How about Caesars Palace food court? There is a lot of seating, different food options, and people can come and go as they please.

That sounds very cheap to me. (and extremely ok, because I'll be on a budget. After all, I have to buy at least 10 kilo's of red m&m's, the ones with peanut butter... )

For me pricey would be between 30 and 50 dollars, expensive would be over 50.

In past CGWs people did the preworkshop meet up at the food court in Caesars. Ample seating for a group of 30-50, everyone gets their own food and sits down. sometimes people are eating and sometimes chatting and you can eat when you feel like it. People come and go. No check to split, and you won't get kicked out for taking up tables too long

Usually they started around 6pm and go long into the night... maybe up to 10 or 11

It's a good option that has worked well in the past. Ceasar's is across the street from Flamingo.

I think the location we used for CGW#2 and #3 is an ideal location. We are able to mingle and move about, there is food available and it is easy to arrive or depart the venue.

My vote is for using this location!

How much of an outcast will I be if not only I eat meat (HORROR!!!) but even go ahead and order McTrash..... Maybe I can put it in a bag that says Salad on it, so nobody will notice...??

I eat meat so if you can stand my company you may sit with me and the other barbarians! They serve pizza in this area as well as some lovely salads and veggie food for our friends who do not eat meat.

I am attending this dinner for sure. Timing is no issue for me and the only diet thing I have is a dislike for overly spicy food. Ceasers foodcourt sounds like a good option.

Also, if you arrive Thursday before check-in time, feel free to drop your bags in my room. It SUCKS having to haul luggage around for a few hours, and I don't wanna put anyone through that

Well, obviously I can't store 150 bags in my room, but hey, if ya need to drop yer bag, lemme know.

If someone needs to drop baggage until their room is ready I am willing to use my room as a storage facility or just a place to hang out until check in time. I am staying at the Flamingo and my cell is 618-553-9246.

The food court has a place where you can customize your salad. Another place sells a large portion of fruit for $10. There is a really great wrap place offers vegetarian options--you may be able to work with them to get a vegan or mostly vegan option.
