CGW Viritual Meetup?

Please let me know if you are interested in particpating in a "virtural" meetup maybe say every other week.

I used to follow a podcast group that would "shoutcast" there recordings and listeners would listen in and chat on IRC.

Then after the recording, some listeners would get together and chat on Skype...

...is anyone interested in participating in something like this...it would be a learning experience for me on the technical side of things...but if enough people are interested I'm pretty sure we could make something work...

I'm not ready to commit to a podcast...so there wouldn't be any recording (yet?)...just skype chatting....a combo of voice and text chat.

...Yes there are time zone issues and tons of things that make this difficult, but I know it CAN be done...

Sanjay...Of course you can join in...just PM me with your Skype name. You might want to check here and on the workshop group page on facebook for dates and times...the time zone thing will be a challange, but you are welcome if you can manage to be available.

Seems like there are some folks interested in the virtual meetup idea...if don't have skype, you can download the software for free and set up an account (Skype – Make free calls and great value calls on the internet)

Then you will need to let me know your Skype Name either via facebook message or a PM on Steve's Forums...THANKS all!! Sounds like a blast!!!

If we end up going the route of a podcast...being recorded "sharing"...will always being completely voluntary...So before you start to share on Skype remember to state YES or NO to being recorded.

You can choose? I mean other people can choose to record what they say and what others say, but if you say "no", you won't be recorded when you talk even though everyone else may be recorded?

You CAN choose...to not participate in a podcast...that I would be involved in putting out.

We would have to honor the wishes of people that choose not to participate in being recorded for podcast purposes.

I not speaking technically...of course we could record anyone we want to record against their wishes...we are just not going to.

I want to allow ANYONE to participate in the skype conversion. I know some people would not show up at all if they knew that they had to be recorded for a podcast.

It's a discussion first, and the Highlights of which of those who choose to be participate may end up on a podcast.

Hey Sanjay,

We will meet at 11:00 AM in Los Angeles which is GMT - 8 according to my calcuations.

The best way to figure out the time for you is to use a web time conversion tool:

The World Clock – Time Zone Converter

Input your local time and then select USA - Los Angeles to get my time zone.

My skype microphone has not arrived yet :-( But the time also conflicts with my Sunday afternoon Church (I'm in Eastern time). If it is done again on a Sunday, evenings work great for me (eg 7 pacific time)

Alex and everyone...I will move the day/time around in an attempt to get as many folks involved as we can...how are you on Saturday mornings around 11 am?

I am moving the start time to 9:00 am PST (UTC -8) on 1 Nov (Sunday) to accommodate someone who wants to participate from India (cool!), so I hope this still works for everyone else that wants to participate...

...I will still be around at 11:00, so if you miss "the meeting" @ 9:00 AM you can still skype me and I will answer and let you know what you missed...we might still be chatting...who knows?

We must have gotten the time zones messed up...we had a great meetup, but we didn't have you .

We had 7 folks show up for the first skype meetup!!! That is an unqualified success!!!

We will do it again in two weeks with hopefully fewer tech glitches to start out with (all my fault ) The date time are up for grabs either Sat or Sunday morning is best for me...but I will do my best to flex to the group wishes.

We all shared and laughed and re-kindled the connection from CGW#1...it lasted about 1:30 minutes...which seemed about right to me...so I will plan to run these not longer than two hours...too much of a good thing right

And the fantastic news is that I thought that I would miss my football game for this meetup...and was again...cool with missing the game, but turns out my game starts late this week The universe loves me....
