Hello, I've enjoyed following all of the posts and thought the speed hugging story was amusing and lighthearted, also seemed to fit Daan, who appeared to be a very happy, likable person. My challenge is this; can anyone post one goal that he/she brought into or developed from the workshop and make a committment to the forum group to attain that goal? As we learned, putting your goal on "paper" is one component of successful goal attainment. Telling others about your goal is another component. Since there is no "punishment" for failure to attain the goal, there is no negative consequence. The more description and updates you provide to the forum, the better feedback you can obtain (if it is feedback you request). My goal is to awaken at 5:00 a.m., get out of bed, and to be showered, dressed, have eaten something, and be in my car on the road to work by 7:00 a.m. for each of the next five business days. I am beginning a new job on Monday and it's important for me to be present by 8:00 a.m. My strategy to assist me in doing this has been; to subscribe to the daily New York Times, which I enjoy reading, to give me something to look forward to; prepare my wardrobe for the next day by the evening prior, and to pack a lunch the evening prior. I will also set an intention to awaken and be out the door per my goal, before I doze off to sleep in the evening. This goal and strategy may come naturally to some of you, but has been a difficult thing for me to do my entire life. I couldn't wake up early as a child to watch Saturday morning cartoons, which I loved. It's partly heredity, possibly partly depression. Regardless, I don't want to let a habit inhibit me from being at my best on the new job where 8:00 a.m. is a mandatory start time. I challenge each of you to post a goal to which you want to be held accountable. My timeline here is five days, beginning Monday, October 12, 2009. Wish me luck! Best regards |

Hi Angela, Thanks for asking. The inspiration is simply to be on time on a consistent basis, something that is difficult for me to achieve. In this case, I'm starting a new job so I thought it would be a perfect jumping off point to set the goal in motion. |

The reason I ask is that goals that are not motivated by inspiring values tend not to be reached, or if they are, there's very little satisfaction in it. Does being on time on a consistent basis inspire you, or do you feel there may be a purpose for being on time on a consistent basis, a purpose that does inspire you? I'm talking about values here, not just helpful items on your to-do list. What would you have that would light you up -- something you would ask a genie for -- if being consistently on time were present in your life? |

Hi Angela, Thanks for the tip. In the context you mention being on-time consistenly would make life easier in the short run, since my job requires it, and in the long run would give me a sense of inner peace knowing that I am able to run my life in a proactive manner. Also in the short run, I will have the satisfaction of knowing that I am contributing to my own positive reputation by being punctual. This is a job that I proactively chose, and I want to be thought of in terms of my positive contribution as opposed to a person with poor time management skills. I subscribed to the NYTimes to give me the "light up" piece, since I realy enjoy reading the newspaper in hard copy form in the morning. Of course, there is the possibility that I could become absorbed in reading the newspaper and put that activity in front of preparation for work, but, the plan is that I read the paper in peace, knowing that I allowed time for one of life's small pleasures, and go off to work feeling happy and content. At this point I am looking forward to working at this job, so there is no need to construct a "Plan B" for dragging myself in to work. Given this positive context, my strategy for getting there timely should be icing on the cake. I'm hoping that the favorable inner feeling I receive from being on time for work will extend to being on time all the time for whatever reason and will heighten my sense of self-worth. Maybe someday I'll be thinking of more efficient ways to punch in the time on my microwave oven keypad as Steve mentions in one of his recent blogs! Thanks again for helping me clarify my goal. |

It's my goal to have completed (at least) a screenplay by the time of the next CGworkshop. I would then like to go to L.A. at some point after the next workshop and see what connections I can make in regards to getting it produced. | |
