Default Is there antyhing with watching 3-4 episodes of sitcoms per day?

I am so hooked on American sitcoms that I can't even imagine my day without watching 3-4 episodes per day?

Do you think that there is anything wrong with it?

I think its good to keep busy with crap, but not good to keep busy indefinitely... To me I think it's better to waste some time rather than sit there feeling bored with no stimulus.

and then when it's time I do my best to be productive. There's a difference between procrastinating and taking a conscious break.

I usually spend a couple hours every day watching Netflix (which in my case often means watching American sit-coms), and I don't find it to be a problem. Mind you, I have more free time than most people.

I rarely watch TV. To each his own, but I think that there are better things I can do with my time.

Do you think the marvel which the human body is was created/evolved to sit and watch TV?

I do not know what the purpose of life is, but in my gut I feel it is definitely not watching sitcoms.

I can also say another thing. Imagine if the hundreds of hours which you spend on sitcoms you would invest into something else - what would be the result?
  • if you worked you would make tens of thousands of dollars
  • if you learned you would get a degree and be a lot smarter
  • if you volunteered you could save 1 or many human lives

or you can just watch sitcoms, you choose.

Sitcoms are addictive. I don't watch them anymore, except on rare occasions. That habit has been replaced by reading, a much more enjoyable and useful pursuit.

All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.

Honestly, life may be short, but if you spend every waking moment working and pushing yourself, you'll wear yourself out, or at least become bitter over time. Sometimes, it's good to just unwind and take a load off for an hour or two and lighten the stress of the day.

Some people meditate. Some play games. Some read. Some watch television.

You might as well say you shouldn't have protected sex because you could be making money or helping the world instead.

I think it really depends upon why you are watching the sitcoms, and for that reason, I don't really think any of us can give you an answer. If through introspection, you discover that you are using them as a mode of escape and you honestly prioritize other areas of your life, stop watching them.

Having said that, enjoying your time and loving something is no small concern. I think sometimes people have a tendency to mitigate the importance of some activities as they are given low social value, but really, we ought to value those activities for no other reason other than the fact that they make us happy. If you honestly like watching the sitcoms, continue watching them.

Taking our words at face value without interpreting them in a way that is meaningful to you would defeat the purpose of personal development. Regardless of whatever decision you make, there will be someone who says, 'this is not true!'. Part of maturity is owning your self.

Do you think there is something wrong with watching 3-4 sitcoms a day?

Well, the reason that i watch sitoms have to do with the fact that I don't like watching soccer, I don't like playing games and the most important thing is that I enjoy watching them because they are too rich, they shake my stress away and being rich they give me lots of ideas about art, since they are full of art.
I found your writing smart, so what do you say about my answer??

I don't think there's anything wrong with any choice you make.

It might help you to look at why you do it, though, just because the answer is usually insightful. For me, I have this thing where I'll get hooked on a certain show and I'll watch it repeatedly (or a movie for that matter). I used to think I was nuts or something, but I eventually realized that the types of movies/shows I was watching revolved around family/friendship/camaraderie and that I was using those things to supplement deficiencies that I had of those things in my own life.

So, as usual, these things are messages about who you are and what you've chosen to be. Take a look and see why you do it. You might be floored.

In my opinion, if Jack spends 3 to 4 hours per day watching TV, he is not likely to be a very interesting or lively boy anyway.

There are no rights and wrongs here. Everyone has to make their own decision.

In Psychology, often the symptoms are not enough to decide if a certain behavior is just weird or something that needs to be looked at. If your behavior does not get in way of your goals, you feel at peace and happy then there is nothing to worry about. If however, you are neglecting health/career etc. in order to indulge in it, then you might want to stop and look where you are going.

American sitcoms are 22 minutes long, so FORk only spends 1.25 to 2 hours a day watching television. So by your standards, s/he should be fine.

Doing anything without a sense of moderation, on a daily basis, is going to do that to you.

But come on, I'm a huge movie-buff, and every so ofter I'll get a friend (or group of friends) together and we'll watch movies for hours on end and have a great time. In my opinion, time enjoyed is never time wasted, as long as you balance the "Need to do" stuff with the "Want to do."

It sounds like you are watching them for the right reason. I'm genuinely interested now. What sitcoms do you watch? You must have a high opinion of them if you see art in them.

Even if I watched shows like 'What I like about you, 'Hope and Faith, I show a high interest in masterpieces like 'Seinfeld', 'Frasier', 'Cheers', 'Married with children,'The Cosby show', but lately i've been watching 'The big bang theory'.

Any fans of Curb Your Enthusiasm? I have not watched it much but the few episodes cracked me up. It's obnoxious, and if you can live with that it's hilarious.
