It's a fact that smoking is really harmful to the body...that's not just my opinion. If the body does so many great things for us, and works for us so selflessly, and we choke it with poison, does that sound like a smart or self-respectful thing to do, to you? Smoking is a waste of time. I've worked with lung cancer patients in a hospital and the ones who were former smokers (90% of them) all regretted their decisions to start smoking. My aunt was a smoker for 40 years and recently died four months ago, she started smoking at age 14. Think for yourself and don't follow the crowd. There's nothing cool about smoking except hurting your body and dying young. I've seen people die from smoking and it's nothing pretty. Say NO to smoking |

And as for the original poster, I hope he's joking. I've smoked from 18 to 23, and then I quit due to being unemployed after college and thus having no money. I've been told by a girl that it's visible by my appearance that I don't smoke. I've also noticed that I hardly ever get colds since quitting smoking, and when they do appear, they go away much faster. The only positive thing about smoking would be the networking part, like someone said before me, although I can't help but feel sorry for those who need to go freeze their bones outside in the winter to get a smoke. And you could probably hang around with those guys without smoking like they do. I remember a talk I had with a cab driver once about smoking. As we talked, he realized he had wasted about 25000 dollars over 18 years on cigarettes. | |

Hey OP, I'm 27 and started smoking about 2 months ago. After half a box it had started to feel very relaxing. I was able to observe how the whole body moves slightly due to heart pulse and it seemed like the weight of the world was lifted off my shoulders. It still happens when smoking after abstaining for 12+ hours, after meals or any hard work. Part of the reason to start was to get accustomed to smoke, after trying weed and not seeing what's the big deal about it. Second and third time it felt much much better. Today I still smoke mainly due to low self esteem, more heavily when depression hits and it seems right to punish self in some way. Besides, it does feel somewhat nice. If you're curious, go for it. Part of the reason why we're here is to try out new things. Have fun... |

I made a decision today that I am going to take up smoking when I am about 50, no questions asked. I make small strange decisions like this all the time. I have been drawn to the act of smoking my whole life and it has been a consistent battle not to start. All my grandfathers and uncles were smokers, as well as nearly all of my friends. It has come to the point where the smell of tobacco actually brings back early childhood memories more so than anything else.

Why not wait until 75? If it takes 20 years to develop lung cancer, no problem! Quote:

Better yet, skip smoking all together and go with a personal vaporizer. Better known as electronic cigarettes. No smoke, no carcinogens. Quote:

I don't know whether it was written anywhere, but I recommend you on rolling your own cigs. Tobacco is far better, there is wider range of tastes, cigs are generally smaller (less CO and other smoke), but richer in nicotin. However, don't start anyway, unless you assume that you will love smoking. And do not treat cigs as an escape, rather as a break. Adam |

Excuse my bluntness but 1. Cigarettes do NOT get you high. 2. If you watched the whole process of dying from lung or esophageal cancer, you wouldn't want to go near them. I smoke. I just recently lost my dad to esophageal cancer. He was diagnosed in September 2010 with stage 4. It was already too late. He had 2 types, Adenocarcinoma and Squamous Cell. One of those types is ONLY caused by smoking. He was a smoker for over 30 years, 4 packs a day. He quit smoking completely a year before his diagnosis because he wanted to be healthier. I desperately WANT to quit smoking but after 13 years of it, it's extremely difficult. I promised my dad I would quit and I intend to keep that promise, but as he said himself, it takes time and lots of willpower. My dad died at only 52 years old because of a stupid addiction that he eventually overcame but still gave him a death sentence. Think about what you're doing. Maybe find a video to watch of the whole process of dying from lung or esophageal cancers because it is truly horrifying and the treatments are worse than the torture our country puts terrorists through. |

go for it. i'm a rather silly smoker as i don't inhale properly, but it takes my mind off the worries and gives me and the dad time to socialize together. smoking buddies are almost as good as drinking buddies. best of luck! PS: don't smoke cheap ciggys. smoke the good ones. |
