Default Having a life purpose is an assumed belief.

Going somewhat along the line of thinking of the book "How I found freedom in an unfree world" I noticed that having a "purpose" is central theme in, to the best of my knowledge, in English and many European cultures. It's like an assumed thing that you must have to be "successful" in life. Is it really true? What exactly is this purpose thing? It feels like some bogeyman that you chase around not knowing what it really is or why. To care or think about this ideal of "purpose", think its important or really accept it as true, Its like no one has questioned this belief of having a "purpose" in the first place, like no one questioning their assumed belief (never questioned/challenged/thought of) in God.

To be true to your own personal feelings, desires and thoughts I feel is different that this "purpose" thing. But I think this is really what this entire purpose thing is hinting at and is a good reason why its so central.

Ideas?

You choose your own life.

If you choose to have a purpose, and you find your life is improved, then having a purpose is good.

But if you choose to have a purpose, and you life doesn't improve, then it's not.

That's really the only objective judgement on the issue.
