Lightworking interests me. I'm not ready to polarise yet but am thinking that maybe sometime in the future I will polarise. Polarisation scares me. It feels like such an indefinite choice. What if I haven't understood the consequences of that choice well enough and will end up hurting myself to the point of no return? Lightworking appeals to me more than darkworking but I do have some concerns about it. - Can I be completely happy if I choose to become a lightworker? I don't want to sacrifice my own happiness for others. - Can I pursue my OWN dreams (my dream career, my dream relationships etc) if I become a lightworker? I'm not ready to give up my own dreams for the sake of the "greater good". - Can I still be selfish when I'm a lightworker? |

Giving up your dreams for the greater good isn't light working, it's communism, IMO. Unless your dream is to become a serial killer. In which case, you can always become a government assassin and rationalize to yourself that it is for the greater good. |

If your dreams don't involve the greater good lightworking is a bad fit for you. Sacrifice is likely-perhaps even inherent-to that path, but that doesn't mean sacrificing all your ambitions and desires. It means you want what's best for everyone and, when push comes to shove, you'll give up what you can for the betterment of the whole. Remember that I'm on the outside looking in. I can point to examples, I could tell you that some lightworkers have given up a lot for others and come out the other end saying, "it didn't feel like I lost anything at all", but as for specifics or methods I'm entirely stumped. Considering most of what's currently out there is by the likes of Deepak Chopra (who probably fits better into the darkworker mold, honestly-"desire is holy" and all that) and Eckhart Tolle I don't envy people who want to polarize that way. With so much dreck it's hard to carve a coherent way forward. Last edited by Cado; 10-12-2011 at 11:48 AM. |

The Temple of Set is a joke but some of the literature its members have produced is worth a look, in particular "Uncle Setnakt's Essential Guide to the Left-Hand Path" and "Lords of the Left-Hand Path." "Underworld Initiation" is one of my more recent acquisitions and it was very eye-opening. I just ordered "Aghora, at the Left Hand of God" and if it's anything like the description and reviews promise that'll be well worth a look. Of course I have to mention Anton LaVey and the Satanic Bible. Satanism was more about showmanship than it was legitimate personal progress but LaVey still said a lot that was worth listening to, both in the aforementioned book and interviews he gave. "On Becoming An Alchemist" is not a book about darkworking-in fact I'd say it's written with a distinctly light-leaning bent-but it's very useful for getting a general grasp of the subtle things at work within the world and ourselves. On the more practical end of things, books like "The 48 Laws of Power" and "Yes! 50 Scientifically Proven Ways to Be Persuasive" are incredibly useful for psychologically shifting into a darkworker's point of view. As a general rule of thumb, I'd highly suggest that a would-be darkworker delve into the history not just of the world but also of various religions and religious teachers. You need a strong rational faculty to really set yourself apart, and the better you understand the past the more leverage you have over those who don't. For example, I've been delving into the Christ myth recently to help deconstruct the last of my Christian programming and the result is that I've not only come upon information that casts a new light on the whole thing, I've found that old aspects of my identity dissolved merely by the act of asking questions I never had before. Everything I mentioned coupled with a steady practice should be more than enough to lay a solid foundation. | |
