Default Inspirational people and stories

I thought it would be cool to share stories about people who have overcome great challenges and obstacles.

This is one of my favorites, the story of Chris Gardner, a down on his luck salesman, and at one time homeless person who became a highly successful stock broker.

Taken from Wikipedia:

Quote:
Christopher Paul Gardner (born February 9, 1954 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin) is a entrepreneur, stockbroker, motivational speaker and philanthropist who, during the early 1980s, struggled with homelessness while raising his toddler son, Christopher, Jr.[1] Gardner's book of memoirs, The Pursuit of Happyness, was published in May 2006.[2]
As of 2006, he is CEO of his own stockbrokerage firm, Gardner Rich & Co, based in Chicago, Illinois, where he resides when he is not living in Toronto. Gardner credits his tenacity and success to the "spiritual genetics" handed down to him by his mother, Bettye Jean Triplett, born Gardner,[2][3][4] and to the high expectations placed on him by his children, son Chris Jr. (born 1981) and daughter Jacintha (born 1985).[1] Gardner's personal struggle of establishing himself as a stockbroker while managing fatherhood and homelessness is portrayed in the 2006 motion picture The Pursuit of Happyness, starring Will Smith.
So let's see some others. Who do you think has a good story?

John Carrigan. He's the greatest person that I personally know and he has a quality that I want to have more than anything in the world. He genuinely cares about people and has the skills to do something about it. I think he truly has the quality of a real man of earth.

I could pick at least 20 or 30 stories, but I'll stick with one. When John was young, his father suffered from schizophrenia. One time, John found his dad in the middle of the road, crying and praying for help. All those around him were either laughing or ignoring him. John promised to himself that he would never turn his back on anyone who needed help. He doesn't.

He helped me and he's helped so many others. I know many of his martial arts students- he has helped them escape abusive relationships, drugs and alcohol abuse.

I would be happy to be half the man he is.
