IMO, threads that have specific thoughts and address concrete issues produce better interaction with other forum members. A vague question of the type "what are your thoughts about abc" will produce equally vague answers, if any.

Character affects everything you do. I do not shop at Wal-Mart, for example, because I have a friend who has worked there for over a decade and still doesn't make $10/hour. The way they keep prices so low is to not pay their workers a living wage. Character is about being willing to be inconvenienced in order to respect a higher value.

I don't buy fashion products, or watch pop culture media, since to me these things are hollow and without grounding or substantiation (not even all cultures wear clothing for stylistic/trend purposes, so it's hardly inherent in our species). It's just how I think, I'm not a stylistic person in that sense. I'm not saying people cannot be that way, but it just doesn't meld with my own personality.
