Default Do you think Jesus had a sense of humour?

You may argue that he didn't come here to crack some jokes, but I was wondering if he did. I don't have the new testament knowledge to answer. I like to believe he did. With all the wine he multiplied, he must have had a laugh at some point.

He'd have to have a good sense of humor to observe what's been done in his name since then.

I'm not sure. Maybe he was joking when he started telling everyone he was the son of God. Some people actually believed so he decided to run with it.

being a human being, of course he did.
I can't recall any specfic passage from the NT, but he is at the very least, fond of good metaphor or

but certainly there are examples of saints having a sense of humor. there is a legend of one (i forget which) being boiled in oil for preaching the gospel, when he is put in he says 'hah, its comfortable, " and then the tryant who ordered his execution stuck his hand in to see and severely burned it and the saint laughed.

i remember also reading an article about the Puritians - how our perception of them is skewed by post victorian modern writers who attributed all manner of sins to them - they were joyous, vivacious, wore bright clothing, drank beer laughed heartily, encouraged sex (with married partner, of course) ect..

anyway i googled this:
).
___Jesus apparently knew how to take a joke as well. Scholars say he used humor frequently in his teaching.
___Jesus used "the weapon of wit and the saber of satire" in his running verbal battles with the religious power structure, according to Randall O'Brien of Baylor University, author of "I Feel Better All Over than I Do Any Place Else."

Is laughter holy? Opinions have changed over time

I reckon he started a lot of his speeches with something like:

> How many Jews does it take to reach Heaven?

> Non! Its the wrong religion! Now today we are gonna talk about....

I'm with dor, I'm certain he did!

As someone once said "The Gods, too, enjoy a good joke." Judging by a blind date I was once set up on, he was right!

I would post the story of that date, but there isnt a "Horror Stories From Hell!" sub menu on the site. Count yourselves lucky. [insert 'thousand yard stare' smiley here]

Course he did, and now I will bring this man back from the dead... hes decomposing... o who cares - Jesus brings him back to life anyway.

The story of the first zombie was surely lazarus.

Awesome, I can see it in my minds eye. Jesus standing before a massive crowd starting with a 'how many ....' joke.

Default Jesus laughs, ‘My representative on earth?

The Pope dies and goes up to the Pearly Gates where he meets St. Peter. He says to him, ‘You must be St. Peter.’ St. Peter answers, ‘And who are you?’ The pope is taken aback, ‘You don’t recognize me? I’m the Pope.’ St. Peter picks up his list and goes over the names, ‘Pope, Pope—I’m sorry, there is nobody here by that name. I’m sorry, but you can’t enter heaven.’ The Pope is shocked. ‘There must be some mistake. It’s impossible—I must be on that list. Please, look again: I’m the Pope!’ St. Peter gets impatient and tells him to buzz off. By now the Pope is in tears and begs him, ‘Please, St. Peter, I’m your successor and the representative of Jesus on earth. I’m the head of the Holy Roman Church. I have a right to enter heaven.’ St. Peter is getting annoyed and says, I’ve never heard of anything so foolish. If you don’t immediately buzz off, I’ll call the angels with the flaming swords.’ The Pope is in utter despair. ‘No, please don’t, I beg of you. Can’t you ask somebody, who knows me? Maybe Jesus or one of the saints will vouch for me.’ St. Peter gives in and says to the chap, ‘All right, I’ll go and ask inside. You stay here. And don’t touch anything.’ So he goes inside, and there are Jesus, his mother Mary, the apostles and several angels and saints. ‘Excuse me, Lord,’ says St. Peter, ‘there is a chap by the name of Pope wanting to enter heaven. He claims to have been your representative on earth.’ Jesus laughs, ‘My representative on earth? That’s absurd, isn’t it? And I’ve never heard of anyone named Pope?’ No one seems to know the Pope, until suddenly the Virgin Mary speaks up, ‘Wait a minute. Pope—isn’t he the one who spread all the rumors about me and the Holy Ghost?’”

I've had this thought a thousand times....lol.

His sense of humor was sharp. If you read the pure translations from greek it reads a bit different from the Saint James version.

Also his sense of sexuality: What do you think he did after he saved that prostitute?

"Oh did they stay stones? I thought they said stoned." (And of course he wore Birkenstock sandals everywhere Welcome to Birkenstock USA)

Yeah - He had (has) a sense of humor. He invented us, then created us, then became one of us - That's funny - Paul

I can't remember the verse....darn...I'll paraphrase...

But, he goes back to his hometown at one point.

And everyone is like, "Isn't that Jesus? Joseph's boy, right? He's a what, a prophet! Little Jesus? Yeah, right. I remember that time he (insert embarassing childhood story here)"

And Jesus goes something like, "A phrophet is a prophet everywhere but his hometown..."

If you read that and don't imagine him rolling his eyes and chuckling, I don't know what to say...
