One suggestion is you can be light hearted and joking in the fun section. That's why it's the Fun and recreation section. In other rooms, you can contribute with a more serious approach. At least I follow this kind of rule. It's not written in stone, you can be teasing/flirting in other sections as well. But within limits and without disrupting the tone of the discussion. All the best. |

st33med; Now that you realize that you don't follow social clues, it might be a good idea to start getting into them by following some of the suggestions given to you here in the thread. 1. Make it a 30 day trial to only post 'serious' posts 2. Only joke in the fun and rec section 3. Really try and post thoughtful posts. If you don't have advice to offer, offer support or acknowledge that you heard what they said. and one of my own: Take people (unless in the fun and rec section) literally. So if people use words like 'issue', 'problem', 'weirded out', etc take their word for it. You don't have to take it personal of course, but you can take them literally. And if you think someone means it in a fun way, for 30 days, ask them! Looking back into this thread and reading your own responses might be a good idea as well... |

I've noticed now that it's a habit to joke. Unconsciously, I believe(d) that if I can't be funny, then I have nothing to contribute. I can see how that formed: children would always be saying something funny, so I tried to be funny but failed. So I formed 'being funny' as 'being socially welcomed' when that is not always the case. Most people are very welcoming or trusting in me. I can still talk ordinary or deep talk and still be fun without being fun-ny. |
