Find other friends. Simple as that.
You can try and catch up with old friends in a way that will leave them more time to get to know the real you, the new you. After all, when you were and idiot, he treated you as it would have been proper in the past, didn't he?

If their attitude does not change: People who are not willing to treat you properly should not be considered current friends and probably have never been friends. But, judging from your post, neither have you been a true friend, idiots rarely are

I saw an interview that Apolo Ohno, who is The famous short track speed skater, took and there he said his childhood nickname was "trunky" because he was trunky back then. but by now he is obviously very lean with nearly muscles only left but his old day buddies still call him "trunky" and he finds it funny and I saw when talking about it he was really smiling.

I say at least you have those old buddies you can meet walking at the street, which is quite an awesome thing~~~ I hardly can meet one now

enjoy dealing with your old buddies and if you must persuade them you are not an idiot then take some time out, invite them to a drink or whatever to brainwash them totally, by actually showing them how adulty and differenty you are now
