True Character Vs. Edited Personality
It is native personality, and that alone, that endows a man to stand before presidents or generals, or in any distinguished collection, with aplomb -and not culture, or any intellect whatever.

With the advent of the powerful self help movement, many people have stumbled on self help guides that teach the individual how to become a magnetic individual through methods like persuasion. This has caused the true "first cause" of magnetism (character) in social settings, to become saturated in "power" techniques whereas the individual is constantly straying from his personality and comfort zone to falsely persuade peers into what they see fit. This makes a lot of sense because people are beginning to realize they have control over their reality, or are co-creators. The issue begins when a superficial personality is cultivated instead of changing the character of the individual. In theory of holistic medicine, one can never truly change the stems, leaves, nor branches, unless the root of the tree is dealt with.
It is estimated that over one million people in the United States buy a self help book every week, every single week! Many of these titles consist of books that give advice on persuading, controlling other's thoughts, controlling other's emotions, deception, and many other futile characteristics that people try to learn and apply.
For example, in the highly regard book (not knocking it at all), The 48 Laws of Power Robert Greene gives the following:
"Pose as a friend, work as a Spy
- Knowing about your rival is critical. Use spies to gather valuable information that will keep you a step ahead. Better still; Play the spy yourself. In polite social encounters, learn to probe. Ask indirect questions to get people to reveal their weaknesses and intentions. There is no occasion that is not an opportunity for artful spying."
Is this necessary? Just let that marinate in your mind for a second. True power comes from within. There is no need to think in this way, especially since most people would subconsciously think themselves to be doing something evil. Why the need to know about your rival? Why even have any rivals in the first place. If you are doing the work you came to Earth to do, NO ONE, can rival you, you are doing a very specific task, that was ordained by your spirit or soul (New Age Term: Higher Self).
These type of techniques are for those not being true to themselves, and thus must deceive to get near the goal. Usually these type of people end up saddened by their accomplishments in the end. Earth elementals will take away your wealth and leave you with nothing but sleepless nights, which was the case in the early 1900's when 8 of the richest people in the world, were surveyed at death, and died poor, many from suicide.
It does not matter how many persuasion, magnetism, or any other book of that genre you have read, this is what ultimately will appear in your reality. Naturally, people pick up on unconscious frequencies more then things said in any social setting. This has been proven through the new discipline "NLP", specifically by the founder John Grinder. Body language, facial tones, eye movement, thought patterns (all mostly subconscious processes) , are more important than the verbal aspect of a conversation. The true personality will always shine! It is not important to work on your persuasion skills, if you have not worked on your character! I believe that one will not need to work on persuasion, if they have a magnificent personality, which we all have internally, yet some just don't bring it out. We see examples in everyday life, with the charming boy in high school, Barack Obama, and others who you deal with who just naturally attract people to themselves. People will attract to you based on your own development! Why do you think bums don't have followers? Why do you think some teachers, whom have not EVER did any of the things they teach, have non-interested students? They haven't developed themselves to be able to handle that energy! Itís the hermetic law, vibration, like will attract like, in quality, and quantity (audience size).
If you're character is sharp, and can handle dealing with many people, you will be a natural magnet. There was a charm study done in the 90's, in which a man of extraordinary character was placed in a theme park, where no one knew him from his appearance, and guess what, almost every damn person in the park engaged him in conversation. This study was done multiple times, with the same results. Then, another man, who was a master of persuasion, was given the same task, yet all the people he encountered, were reluctant to talk to him, even though he was able to engage a few people.
This just goes to show, character is definitely one of a human's best assets, ESPECIALLY if they will be dealing with people (which we all do). In this day and age, we must begin to become conscious of our surroundings, and more importantly, OURSELVES. Some of the old wealthy people are dying off, making way for the new wave of conscious, financially abundant folks, that are ready to use true spiritual principles to gain abundance (not just wealth, but inclusive of all factors of happiness). Remember the wise Solomon said to trust in the Lord (your own soul and purpose), and you'll be good, quit tripping', using old ass collusive methods to do your work, its time out for that.
We have so many programmed blue prints we unknowingly run off of, that bring us a reality that is beyond mediocre, compared to our potential. Its time we start developing the root of our social interaction, the character, instead of the leaves and its branches. Many will be surprised how the world responds, remember, the world is waiting for you to bring it, so stop slacking!

You have alot of very valid points. I agree that character comes BEFORE tactics - there is a place for each. To my mind, techniques are merely an expression based upon one's own personality and personal power. I've been studying people a long time and what Robert Greene mentions are subconscious processes identified through a watchful eye. If you are ignorant to these manipulations, you'll become a victim. With awareness of these maneuvers you'll have a formidable defense and will recognize these patterns of behaviors in others (sharp intuition). I don't know if you know about the streets but this science is a matter of life and death - a degree of FREEDOM or the pain of suckerism - in that arena as well as in the business world.
Social interactions are chock full of invisible dynamics full of information coming and going subliminally. The streets to the corporate suites.
I been on both sides and I can say people will forever be performing "tricky dick" communication, it's a survival mechanism.
A High Personal Vibration (character/personal power/spirit) amplifies everything yet in my own life, I noticed that when I get around lower vibrational kinds of people, these games are more rampant (ego dominated).
50 cent mastered this process to a point where he can navigate anything, anywhere, anytime. The 50th Law, 48 Laws, Art of Seduction, 33 Strategies of War - nothing is new under the sun.

I completely agree with the OP. Once upon a time, I got into the "seduction community" with Mystery and all those guys. I tried the techniques, went out and put on a false face, and you know what, it even worked some time. The problem is that I didn't enjoy any of it. My very being was telling me how inauthentic I was. I was constantly worried about maintaining that fake mask.
I've found that by being genuine people like me even more. I think the energy behind your actions says far more than the actions themselves. Love is stronger than hate or greed, no matter how appealing the guise may be.
