How the heck do WE know what oysters do or do not feel? They are living Beings aren't they? No nervous system...? Everything that lives has some sense of some kind whatever that may be. Come to think of it how do we know plants don't have some sense about being taken from the ground by vegan lettuce predators.....? But that's pushing it because we have all got to eat something and we can't live on manna from heaven. |

Painless is good but doesn't make things right For example if humans could not feel pain would it be ok to kill people then? No because we recognize that each individual being has it's own individual consciousness and to kill them would be a tragedy because individual consciousness is something amazing and precious and valuable that when destroyed, you can never get it back as far as we know. Also suffering is not necessarily physical. Suffering can come from being disrespected...fear, anxiety, depression etc. Many species have individual consciousness, including humans. To care about individuals. Not just "Save the whales" but recognizing that each individual whale has it's own unique consciousness and mental and emotional life, just like people. And for an individual to die, whether the human individual or an individual from another species, is a tragedy. |
