I've always resonated with Truth, Love, and Beauty more than the TLP triangle, and I wanted to explore that here. When I came across the TLP triangle, I acknowledged and recognized how important Power is...and yet, I've always realized it (as in realized through actions, not intellectually) the least. Also, my emotional ties to Beauty are stronger than those to power. With Truth, Love and Beauty...my heart really sings, Power doesn't do much for me. In fact, I had to go back and capitalize "Power" I didn't do it instinctively (even in this context) like I did for the others. I'm really interested in exploring what in me finds TLB more alluring than TLP. Any insights would be highly appreciated. ETA: "Truth" in many of my mental contexts, manifests as "Understanding" as well, also interesting. |

Maybe you connect with intention and manifestation more than cause and effect. You see beauty as the manifestation of spirit. You see yourself as a witness more than a body who takes action to achieve things.

To me power sounds like the serious one in the bunch. It sounds pushier than beauty. If each one were given a category what would that be? Truth: What you know Love: What you express Power: The other thing you express Beauty: What you are |

I never really liked power either, or at least how it resonates for me. So right now I'm reading the book so I can see what definition Steve gives to power to see if it fits more naturally in my world view. |

| Well, I know power is a bit of a loaded word, but even in the sense of just Personal Power instead of Power over Others, I still 'feel' Beauty more, if that makes sense.

The way I like to see it is using perspectives: objective, subjective and intersubjective. (Note that there could be interobjective, but since we are talking about triangles, we can include it in objective for argument sake). Although those different divisions can be "mapped" to each other (will do it in a minute), they usually do not fit perfectly, but just enough so we can see the similarities. Hence, take this as an exercise of understanding those ways of seeing the world. The order I will write about them is not important, it's just for the purpose of explaining this. First, the objective can be seen (mostly) as the Truth in all three cases (yours, Plato's and Steve's). That means that there is something in the world that we can try to discover and to see for and in itself. Then the intersubjective can be seen (mostly) as the Love in your and Steve's cases and as the Good in Plato's. That means the connection that there is between two or more people. I know that in Steve's use for Love it means connecting to anything, not just people, but we can fit it in here. As I said, this is just an exercise. Last the subjective can be seen (mostly) as the Beauty in your case and in Plato's. That means that there is a personal, "I", component in it. Ok, now we get to Steve's Power. Again, - and I must say this over and over to avoid misunderstandings - those divisions do not fit each other perfectly, and we can see them as overlapping sometimes, depending on which one you look at. As I see it, I would put Steve's Power as a mix of subjective and objective, since there seems to be a subjective component (for example, willpower) and an objective component (for example, taking actions). To be more precise, I see Steve's TLP more as an almost orthogonal view in relation to objective/subjective/intersubjective/interobjective perspectives, since each of his concepts uses a little bit of each of those. As I said, those are just ways to see reality and each one can be more appropriate according to who is using it and the context where you're using it. In the end, what matters is what you feel more confortable using. I like very much including Steve's TLP when I'm thinking about my PD and some decisions. It's all about using the proper tools to solve the proper problems. []'s Rodrigo | |
