Default get in graduate school without the GRE

I am planning to go to graduate school for forensics psychology after I get my B.A in psychology and marketing. My friend told me that I can take a couple of phoenix university online courses " Masters" ( I think they don't require GRE) and then I can transfer my grades to a good graduate school, hopefully getting my masters in forensics psychology without the GRE . Is this possible or too good to be true? I would love to skip the GRE

This is pretty unlikely-a lot of schools view online courses as far inferior to offline schools. And even transfer students are often required to submit a GRE score.

Why the resistance to the GRE, anyway? It seems like paying for online courses would be a lot more expensive and time-consuming than just taking the GRE.

It's not impossible, but it is highly unlikely.

And rather than taking the (possibly wrong) advice of a friend, find out which forensic pathology programs you might want to apply to, then contact them with this question. Most grad programs are very forthcoming with this kind of information, and are happy to provide it to prospective students.

And frankly, you're better off just sucking it up and taking the GRE. Nobody wants to take it, but if you do you'll be able to get into the grad program you really want to be in in the first place. Transferring in grad school sucks (when it's even possible), and University of Phoenix courses do not always transfer--you may end up having to take the same courses over again, starting from the beginning. So why waste your time and money that way?

Just take the GRE. It's not that big a deal, and then you don't have to figure out some half-assed workaround (that probably won't work anyway).

I understand why you want to skip GRE. Any test is best to be avoided. But it is not really that tough to take GRE and clear it. You can join a good tutorial near your place. This will ease your preparation efforts. You can also go for online GRE courses (refer GRE Preparation / GRE Online Course). There are many sites which offer GRE resources like practice tests, general info and syllabus.

Just give it a try...

The GRE is like the SAT. I'm not even sure why this is the entrance exam to graduate school. Frankly it's horrifying to think that this is the baseline requirement for going to graduate school.

This is why degrees are like receipts. I shudder to think what the next generation of people in academia will be like.

I dunno, M theory is pretty awesome. Martin Seligman's transition of the "learned helplessness guy" to studying Positivist psychology was also pretty awesome.

And Humanistic psychology has been well and truly fleshed out.

I was referring to the fact that graduate school has become what a 4 year degree used to be, and 4 year degrees have the education value of what high school used to be.

It's just the failure of the American public school system. Check out "Waiting for Superman" if you don't believe me.

That's because college has become one of the biggest money making rackets in America. That's why education has been "dumbed down" so to speak. Because if they didn't, they couldn't "mass produce" it.

Everything in America seems to revolve around money. It's uncanny.
