Flannel Pajamas Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist 500 Days of Summer Lars and the Real Girl The first two weren't even really quality films. I saw all three back to back, and I had a mindblowing series of epiphanies about long term relationships from them. I just "got" stuff, and it was like... "WHOA". In the one in the middle, the two didn't really click over anything very deep. It's a typical teen fluff romance. Flannel Pajamas is what marriage looks like after you've married the person with whom you've had the teen fluff romance. The two talked endlessly in the beginning, which is a common Gen X trope of Ideal Love, but turned out to have little to nothing in common. It made me realize that wow - you don't really know a person just from long talks until 2am, you know them by being *around* them. 500 Days and Lars made me realize how much of a relationship takes place in each party's mind, and how their ideal isn't necessarily even sensitive to the existence of the other party. Now, in the second case, the other party is a doll. But it's a valid metaphor for a place in which many of us are stuck. Last edited by pyrogen; 07-14-2010 at 12:34 AM. |

| I like make-over movies where the main character starts out shy and then undergoes a transformation. My favorites are: Terminator 1 & Terminator 2 To me, that's all about Linda Hamilton's transformation from wimpy waitress to hard-core obsessed mother. The deleted scenes from T2 are good, too. I just love how she is completely driven by her obsession to transform herself and her life. Shows how dramatic of a transformation you can make if you put your mind to it. Love it! Then I like Desperately Seeking Susan with Madonna as the free-spirited inspiration and Roseanna Arquette as the house-wife looking to change her life around. Just so whimsical fun...... it inspires me to take more chances in life. Then finally, I really find Breakfast at Tiffany's inspiring.... with Audrey Hepburn being so free-spirited and gorgeous. She has to undergo an emotional transformation about what she really values in life in order to find happiness. Those are the most inspirational to me. |

I saw that and The Sorcerer's Apprentice two days apart, and while the second was just lightweight fun, I still feel pretty inspired by the combo

Another freaky synchro -- that song, Je Ne Regrette Rien (the "kick" song), has been going through my head for the last couple of weeks. When I heard the first bit of it, I nearly jumped out of my theater seat! "I regret nothing" - too funny, huh? |

I just watched "Memories of Matsuko" yesterday. It's Japanese, I'm not Japanese so I've been watching it with subtitles. It's a flash back movie about a woman and the struggles in her life. It's nice. I hope someone had watched it too. |

the movie that has inspired me the most . . . . hmmmmm 300 - no matter how many times i watch this movie, I always get goose bumps at the speech that the king gives near end. i suppose its the courage that they show in the face of hoplessness. |

"The service here is atrocious!" - a regular quote for me!!! And it's a big thing to say a movie is better than The Matrix. The Matrix was in a league of it's own, but I have heard nothing but positive reviews for Inception. I am soooo in the mood to watch some amazing movies this weekend, and Inception will be one of them

Never liked movie. Watched some but all of them seems boring. I've watched some of the "inspirational movie" listed here. This is not a movie, but I guess it fit because it's inspiring and is a tv series. You had to sit down and watch it. Cosmos by Carl Sagan. I've never let out tears when I'm in front of the screen until this this hits me. "What we do to our world, right now, will propagate down through the centuries and powerfully affect the destiny of our descendants." I just absolutely adore him. |

So I watched a bunch of lesbian-centered films and kept looking for one that was not just good, but great. Most of them are the exact same, extremely uncreative and pedantic. I finally found one called Fingersmith. It's not pedantic at all; it's truly a work of art. The lessons it offers, you must "read between the lines" of this film to get. Everything is done with subtlety. The plot is rather twisted, full of deception and betrayal. What this film is all about is reading between the lines, is what's going on beneath the surface. Unlike the other lesbian films I've seen, the characters here are 4-dimensional. And the unraveling of all these layers of deception ultimately gives the story a sense of honesty and rawness which makes it exquisite to watch. Apart from that, the acting is superb, and the love scenes are truly poignant. This is really fun to watch. Highly recommended! Last edited by Cochonette; 12-08-2010 at 05:00 AM. |
