I want to travel around USA for a few months. Alone. Leave Ireland where I reside now and see the country I always wanted to visit. I could maybe start working there and just move there for a year but it's not the same as an adventure... Negative thing is that this journey would cost a lot but it would be unforgetable experience. You think this can help build stronger character? |

Absolutely! It is a great way to get to know yourself differently, to be really you, without the expectations of other people. You will make lots of friends and have lots of fun!! If the US is too expensive, you can always try backpacking in a different country. Mexico is great and a lot less expensive |

I wonder how should I go about traveling to improve myself. Do I get an invitation to USA for a year and go to find a job there and settle there for a while in one city. Or I go for a few months just traveling around... I prefer second option but for that I need to save up a lot of money.. I think I could do some couch-surfing to save money and stay at some people's houses while traveling. I'd also travel by bus or train a lot probably. Since I have no driving license yet .. But probably the biggest problem is what I'd do after the few months of traveling... can I find a job when I'm back from USA? While it is possible to find it, it's still hard I know people who have been looking for it for quite a while.. This fear of not finding a job later on is holding me back mostly... |

Maybe you could do both... you could do some travelling around the US and spend some time in one place working a job. Having a job overseas for a few months will also possibly help you get a job when you head back home!

I could probably get invitation from family or friends who live there and be able to stay for a year. I could go to an agency and try getting work visa for a year from them.. Either way, its not as much about finding a job there but about challenge of being alone and doing everything alone in the country you don't know... Biggest obstacle seems to be what would I do after the journey..no job, no education, my mom just gave me bunch of reasons why I should stay in Ireland and work for more than a year to be able to get social welfare if something happens. But I completely don't care about it, I understand the risk..I still want to do it.. | |
