OK serious. I recognize the frustration, the wanting the best for her etc you displayed in your opening post. And I'm a quite direct kind of guy myself.
What helped me a lot in getting better in influencing others is the classic book 'How to win friends and influence people' by Dale Carnegie. He sums up, with many examples, what works and what does not work in that area. Buy it, read it, practice it.
On influencing versus manipulation: it's all about your intentions. Look at those with brutal honesty and you will know.
