| Everyone, I just wanted to make an update to both of the recent threads I've started as this forum really had an impact on some of the decisions I've made recently. I think I finally understand my own purpose and why I was having so much trouble with criticism and what I was doing in life. Now, I've added a new website to my list of sites that I own/administer, one entirely devoted to my true passion: music (specifically rock 'n' roll and blues). I don't know why it took so long for me to come to this idea (actually I had it before but dismissed it due to negativity) as music is really the only thing I feel confident enough to voice my opinion on regularly seeing I'm rarely without some playing (my headphones are basically part of my head). Anyways, I just wanted to collectively thank this forum, Steve, and all the people who replied to my previous threads about difficulty and not being sure of my purpose. Reading through people's replies and Steve's articles really helped me realize that I should be happy with what I'm doing and go with what I know. Also I've come to a few other realizations. The first being that I'm really my own worse enemy when it comes to critique and instead of trying to sound like someone I'm not, I should just make sure that I'm saying my true opinion. I never really had a problem with critique as an artist unless it was a piece I wasn't happy with at all. If I was happy with it, then it didn't bother me because I was secure in the work. I think the problems I was having with writing came out of the fact that I was too concerned with sounding like an expert instead of sounding like me. This made me less confident in the work and so the critiques really got to me. The second is that I don't have to speak out directly on social issues, change and improving the world to make a difference in someone's life. Simply by sharing what I'm passionate about, I might make some other people happy too and that is important to me. Now all I have to do is keep out negativity and doubt and I should be set. Sorry about the new thread that is only an update, but I figured it would be easier than having me type all this in response to both my previous threads. Thanks again everyone and if you get a chance, check out my new site. It's in my signature.
