Here's my theory on this, and its just a theory, see how much it resonates with you. NO ONE has a purpose when they came here. It was something that was chosen by us and that's why you feel so great when in alignment with it, b/c you are acheiving your dreams. But you can CHOOSE not to follow you're purpose. I'mma get spiritual here, but I think some soul's have a purpose when coming to this world, but they CHOSE that purpose, you can CHOOSE to have a new purpose or not have one, just have fun with life and love, that's the point after all. |

Life purpose finds us when we relax into life and follow our innermost urgings, no matter how large or how small. But yes, I do agree....quite a wonderful thing to even be considering life purpose at the age of 17! I recall getting quite frantic when I realized at that age that I didn't have a clue what I really wanted to do!...and I guess that's my main point here....If we're feeling at all frantic or stressed out over finding and defining one direction for our life path, we're simply going about it the wrong way. Most of us at 17 still have a ways to go in terms of self discovery before we begin to realize what we're even capable of. Viewing finding our life purpose as a process rather than a destination will surely help. Faye

You mean that by saying this: ...for goodness sake get off your own back...your just 17... You meant this: Quote:

I'm 46 and I still don't think I've necessarily found the end all and be all in terms of my life's purpose or direction...however I have learned to relax into life and follow my impulses towards joy ....as humans we're constantly evolving...as I've said before, purpose comes to us when we just relax and enjoy the moment to moment unfolding of life. Fretting over the fact that we don't have direction does little to highlight our path. Last edited by inri; 03-18-2010 at 06:45 PM.

Therefore, we can skip all the angst involved in trying to find a specific life purpose or direction by simply focusing upon having fun and loving as completely as possible while we live....direction comes to us through following our joy.

His original post states though that he feels like a 'blindman' as he lacks a crystal clear direction in life....he also alludes to the fact that he fears living a mediocre life if he doesn't find his purpose soon. This does sound a bit like 'fretting' to me. And I do sense a certain amount of urgency within his question...and yes...if someone is pursuing a particular direction out of fear, it will be more difficult to find. Putting out the desire, and then flowing with 'what is' is always the best way to attain anything we're wanting...that includes a defined life purpose. sounds to me though from reading his subsequent posts that he now has a good grip on this. He's decided to forgo further schooling because it simply doesn't resonate with his higher urgings....Oh if only I'd have had THAT kind of sense to listen to my inner spirit when I was 17!

Hi Gegedo, I can relate to your situation. I just finished college and really wish I had a compass like a purpose to look up the direction. Sometimes I even think I will waste my time as long as I don't know my purpose. But the folks here are right, you can't just find it instantly. It's not just a matter of doing the exercises, you'll need to be prepared for it. I read "Life on Purpose" and often struggled with answering the questions, because they are about experiences in life and as of yet I don't seem to have enough of them (or of the right ones). So the second thing the folks here are right about is to live your life and listen to your intuition. This way you'll create lots of "the right experiences" in which you can more easily see your purpose. For one take on this check this link: Riding On Dragons - The Path To Purpose I encourage you to continue reading and doing the exercises. But don't push too hard. Be very aware and look for the little clues. For me even little revelations brought some seemingly small changes. But when you look at the whole path, these smaller steps will prepare you, so you get there without being overwhelmed. So keep on going, you're on the right path. Learn to accept that you can't jump the queue which doesn't mean you have to take as many turns as some of us described here. I think this is one of the first lessons you'll need to learn in personal development anyway. |
