Question Meaningful participation in society

This is a perspective query thread. Please just post your perspective, and don't debate anyone else's perspective. I know it's probably inevitable, at least a little; but I'm going to try my best to not do it, so you too please.

What do you think constitutes meaningful participation in society? What is required for meaningful participation in society?

Thanks to rocksupreme for mentioning this in another thread, which got me interested.

I haven't read that other thread you mention but to me one's mere existence and routines of survival are to me a meaningful participiation in society.

Not sure what exactly "meaningful" here means but if in terms of effect on the society then all participiation is necessarily meaningful.

I think what your question really is asking has more to do with making contributions that society views as positive or beneficial than as being meaningful. The life of the homeless man occasionally found fishing near the river is full of meaning. The life of the lazy geek that spends his days watching TV and playing video games is full of meaning. The life of the school janitor is full of meaning too.

Or are you just trying to point out someone's folly in using the phrase "meaningful participation"?

Meaningful participation is only possible when man knows himself entirely, and becomes capable of "responsibility". Having not achieved this, man's only meaningful participation is efforts to achieve this.

I wasn't trying to point out anything

I was just curious how you view it (anyone who responds), and how you apply the idea in your life.

Meaningful participation:
-To be an activist who helps people in some are of their lives
-To dedicate spare time to help to improve the community
-To make people be happier with their lives than they were
