I've been feeling a bit down lately, and I've realized that I don't have much going on in my life save for work and studying. Does anyone have any suggestions for a new hobby that I can try to brighten up my life?

Running would be my suggestion, but if that seems like a heavy commitment, then you could try walking for half an hour to an hour everyday.. You'll get exercise, and so feel better (releases endorphines) and lots of insights seem to come while walking, it's like your brain goes wandering while you go wandering, and so you might think of many more hobbies that could improve your life! I agree that exercise would be a great idea, and I would suggest a team or partner sport, like beach volleyball or tennis, so that you're interacting with people, making new friends, and being held accountable. Plus it's fun!

You could also try writing what's on your mind, or write a story about whatever. I personally like journaling. Or maybe get involved with an organization that interests you, like community service.

| I would suggest doing things that are a bit out of your comfort zone. Through gaining different experiences - you may find a dormant passion or desire that you didn't realize you have. Running is a good example - people aren't born as dedicated runners! They give it a shot - find out that they like it - then it becomes part of their everyday life. So there are lots of things in life like running that you might really love doing - but you don't really know until you try. Hope that can help you!

Cooking is a great, and usually a (fairly) easy place to start; and can have lifelong benefits in regards to health, and even relationships. If you're truly passionate about too, it can easily be made into a career. It's such a versatile skill that everyone should possess. Good food is always a great conversation piece and people have to eat right? Win-Win if you ask me. |
