It's not my rule, it's the law in many countries. Interesting how many people in this thread choose to overlook that.

I choose to overlook the speed limit laws when driving too. Everyone breaks that one though, so it's "okay".

Most laws I can more or less agree with, but the ones that I don't I just ignore. Technically, running away from home is considered illegal, but when my ex-girlfriend was in an abusive home and nobody in authority wanted to help, she picked the choice that was best for her and got away.

That kind of thinking is OK for kindergarten, but you're supposed to grow over that .

You can do so until a big hairy cop (M/F) drags your ass to court .

Running away illegal? I have to look up if that is so in our country, never heard of it. Is it a law that is enforced? If so, I assume that running away from abusive situations is not punished?

Kindergartners do what they're told.

Growth, to me, is doing what I know I want or should do, whether or not other people (or laws) agree with it.

Do you always obey the speed limit, Spirit?

Nobody ever catches Daffy.

If they find you, they may put you back into the abusive home. If they actually believe you are abused, then they will take you out of the abusive home and group you up with other kids from abusive homes, which in reality isn't always much better, but sometimes it is.

A sad reality is that many children are abused, and when they tell adults about it and ask for help, many of them are ignored.

Always. But my right foot has a will of it's own . It thinks it knows better than me.

I doubt I will spend any time in prison for going over the speed limit or any of the other laws I ignore.

It's much better than the prison of letting other people run my life because I'm too afraid of breaking any laws.

Children are easily controlled compared to adults, in my opinion. Many of my friends are teachers and I've spent a good amount of time working with kids.

Not sure, but if you're breaking laws like you're breaking rules I'm willing to bet on it .

I like that way of thinking.
Me too. The thing of course is not only breaking the rules, but also getting away with it by the results you create. I forgot the title of the book, but in it the 11th Commandment was described. A father warns his kid to determine his own rules for life and not blindly follow society's rules, but in society's eyes be compliant with it's rules. And if one needs to break society's rules, follow the 11th commandment: don't get caught.

Very wise advise I think.

This has turned out to be a discussion about rules and law? How does that help Sunmaid??? We all have a position on what she did. But what she should do or not do is the question at hand. Or am I going nuts from all of this and I and ALG are the only ones with a law degree here as far as I know.

Good point, Marinik. Now we have our own thread.

What is your point about you and ALG having a law degree? We don't need a degree to discuss laws and rules.

Just so everyone knows, this is a continuation of some posts from another topic.

A scene for two. Actors: PO (Police Officer) and DD (Daffy).

PO: sir, are you aware that you were speeding here?
DD: actually, no, PO.
PO: mmm, you must be under the influence then. Get out of the car, you're under arrest.
DD: Hey!
PO: Resisting arrest? That's a serious offense. The judge won't be pleased with you.
DD: Ridiculous! You must be out of your mind!
PO: Obviously you're not aware of the new law that verbal assaulting a PO is equal to assault & battery? You're looking at 5 to 10 in a maximum secured facility now.
DD: But, but, ...

(PO locks up DD. DD stares sadly outside a small window and remembers the wise words of a distant spirit, not so long ago...)

That was a joke and a provocation for you to stop debating this topic on that thread. And by the way Spirit has stated so many times that the snooping was against the law and it isn't. There has been no damages, the father has not sued her it would have been a private "claim"... so no crime. At least for now. And it is not like it is inadmissible evidence Sunmaid was going to use in court!

PS: I do not know the professional law language in English so the terminology is a bit of so do not take it literally please! You all know what I mean at least from movies.

Spirit, I enjoyed your example. But in real life, the PO would be a female, and she would have fell for my alarming charm and asked me for my phone number. If I didn't give it to her, she would have looked up my number in her police system and followed me home. Handcuffs would probably end up being used and... well, let's not talk about the rest.

It worked! You successfully manipulated me.

Side-note: I currently have a feeling someone, somewhere, is talking about me. They need something better to talk about. I'm going to send out thoughts of cotton candy to them.

if I recalled correctly I said there were privacy laws. Apart from that I would think you can't touch others' personal stuff (diaries, email etc) without their permission. Maybe it's not an enforceable law. That was not the main point of my argument.

I think the damage is twofold. Sunmaid betrays her father's trust, and lowers her own integrity. Doesn't matter that the father is not trustworthy himself.

That the father hasn't taken legal action is irrelevant.

No, of course not. I didn't tell you the rest of the story.

I will now.

If I didn't give it to her, she would have looked up my number in her police system and followed me home. Handcuffs would probably end up being used and... I would unlock them, and gently suggest a cup of tea. After the water boils, I'd pour us both a cup, and we'd sit on the couch and discuss how she decided to become a PO. I'd suggest a friendly computer game of Jeopardy and we would play a few rounds. I win overall, but she was very strong in the "Rhymes with Yellow" category. It's around 9pm now, and I wish her a safe drive home, and never see her again.

P.S. An effective way of turning a girl off is to suggest a game of Jeopardy.
