Well, I would take the next year to meditate and pray (depending on your point of view) about it. It might be good to take a year off and see how that goes. College is not going anywhere and you can easily go back if you decide thats what you want to do. Given your high school grades, I'm sure you could get a scholarship at a local college or university. I went to school as a very immature and unfocused teen and unfortunately didn't mature much throughout my twenties. I don't want to say I wasted a lot of years but I wish I had taken sometime off to mature and gain more focus on what I wanted to do with my life. |

Good advice phoenix, wish I had heard it before my own college career Spiritual endeavor (meditation, prayer, etc.) really does help you mature a lot. We keep thinking the answers are "out there" for us to find, but everything comes from within. |

It's pretty common, in other countries, to take a year off before heading to college. And for good reason, a year of independence forces you to mature. I got a very good piece of advice when I went to college (I was 25 when I started). You can go to college to prepare for a job, or it can be four years of intense learning and self-discovery. I chose the latter and glad I did. The decision, of course, is yours and you already know in your heart what you should do. What ever you decide, good luck. |

Hi Corey. Since you say you're in junior high school, there's no rush to decide on college. It's funny how when we're young, part of us is in such a hurry to grow up that we may lose out on the pleasures of that era of our lives. Older adults get nostalgic and wish they could relive some of their younger years. My suggestion would be to continue exploring your skills and talents and finish junior high and high school. After that point, if you still feel you don't desire to attend college, you will no doubt come up with other ways to develop yourself while you also learn to become more independent. For now, if your entrepreneurial, you can always get a paper route or undertake other initiatives to make money. As you discover interests and connect more to the real world, I have confidence you'll gain a clearer sense of direction. Best wishes! |

"The Big Idea" - with Donny Deutsch featured an episode on following your passion. During the show at one point he pointed to his heart and mentioned look inside here....that is where the answer lies.....your parents and friends are all coming from a different place.....look inside yourself. At the end of the show there were several clips of previous successful people that he interviewed - all stating doing what you love etc. Wish you the best!..... Robert | |
